Before Screen Rant, he was a Senior Writer for The Cinemaholic, covering everything from anime to television, from reality TV to movies.
After high school, he was on his way to become a Civil Engineer. However, he soon realized that writing was his true calling. As a result, he took a leap and never looked back.
A new book will soon be added to the Reacher universe. However, unlike most previous additions, this book seems to end a long era for the action thriller franchise. Up until now, the Jack Reacher franchise was primarily led by the titular character, Jack Reacher. However, decades after the franchise's inception, it is finally shifting its focus towards Neagley with a new spin-off show and book.
Starring Maria Sten as the titular lead, the Neagley spin-off show premieres on Prime Video on September 16, 2026. Interestingly, its release date aligns with the premiere of Reacher season 4's finale on the streaming service. Since the spin-off show will also feature Alan Ritchon's Jack Reacher in some capacity, it is hard not to believe that its timeline will be set directly after Reacher season 4's events.
From its first trailer, the Neagley spin-off show already looks incredibly promising. It seems to be riffing on some of its parent show's strengths while etching its own identity in the action thriller genre. Frances Neagley, as a character, is also getting her own book spin-off soon, which has been co-authored by Lee Child himself.
The First Neagley Spin-Off Book Comes Out In 2027
The upcoming Neagley spin-off book is titled Zero Margin and has been co-authored by Lee Child and Yasmin Angoe. The story details surrounding the new book remain under wraps, but it is scheduled to hit the bookshelves in March 2027.
Prime Video's Reacher has featured Maria Sten's Frances Neagley in every season so far. It seems likely that she will also make a brief appearance in Reacher season 4. In Lee Child's Jack Reacher books, Neagley has had a relatively smaller role where she has only appeared in a handful of installments, like Bad Luck & Trouble, Night School, and Without Fail.
By giving Neagley her own book series and spin-off show, the Reacher franchise is heading in a whole new creative direction. While Jack Reacher remains its primary appeal and continues to lead the franchise's new books and show installments, Neagley, too, will now have the opportunity to establish her own legacy.
The Reacher Franchise Benefits From Growing Beyond The Titular Character
Image courtesy of Shane Mahood/Prime VideoNew spin-offs of well-established franchises can always be risky because it is never guaranteed that audiences will like them as much as they admire the parent show. However, Prime Video has done an incredible job of setting the stage for Neagley's own show by gradually introducing her in every season and raising intrigue surrounding her characterization.
Both Lee Child's books and Prime Video's Reacher have maintained an air of mystery surrounding Neagley. They have prompted readers and viewers to raise questions surrounding her motivations, backstory, and aversion to touch. This gives the upcoming book and the television spin-off enough material to tell Frances Neagley's own stories while exploring her crime-solving endeavors.
Once Neagley is established as a solid standalone character in the franchise with her own successful spin-off show and book, she can also make fewer appearances in the parent show. This would allow Reacher to have more solo adventures where he may not always need Neagley's help.
Even in the book series, some of the newer installments were criticized for shedding many ingredients that previously made the franchise incredibly compelling. The Jack Reacher novels were arguably running out of stories to tell and even becoming slightly redundant. By giving Neagley her own book series, the overarching Reacher franchise keeps things fresh and gives audiences an interesting and whole new character to root for.
