The new scary movie that turns the colorful world of '90s children’s television into a nightmare has received a strong reaction from moviegoers. Buddy landed itself an 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes after less than 24 hours (at the time of this article's publication).
The early audience response is joined by positive reviews from critics, too. At the time of this article's publication, Buddy had an 87% score on the Tomatometer, giving the horror film strong reactions on both sides of the website.
Keegan-Michael Key portrays Buddy, and he is joined by an impressive star-studded cast. The movie also features Cristin Milioti (Grace Leigh Gardner), Delaney Quinn (Fredrica "Freddy" Gardner), Topher Grace (Ben Gardner), Michael Shannon (Willie), Clint Howard (George), and Patton Oswalt (Strappy). Kelly directed the movie and co-wrote its screenplay with Jamie King. Roadside Attractions and Saban Films are distributing the movie.
The film arrives in theaters after making its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it screened as part of the event's Midnight program.
