A new Paddington in Peru image unveils more about the sequel. The movie, which is the third installment in the franchise adapting the Michael Bond children's book series of the same name, follows the anthropomorphic bear Paddington (Ben Whishaw) as he and his adoptive family visit his beloved Aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton) in Peru, only to discover that she has gone missing. The upcoming Paddington in Peru also features returning stars Hugh Bonneville, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent, as well as newcomers Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, and Emily Mortimer (replacing Sally Hawkins as Mary Brown).
ScreenRant can now share an exclusive first-look image from Paddington in Peru, which is the feature-length debut of music video director Dougal Wilson. The image depicts a distressed-looking Paddington standing alone in Aunt Lucy's empty home. It seems as though the image is from the scene where he first discovers that she has disappeared, kicking off his grand adventure through the South American country. See the full-size image below:
The Search For Aunt Lucy Will Be Of Huge Importance In Paddington In Peru
Paddington Dotes On His Aunt Lucy
One element of the image that prevents the stakes from seeming more dire than they might have been is the fact that Aunt Lucy's bed is made, which serves to highlight the fact that she has seemingly left of her own volition. Thus, her disappearance can fuel a new adventure for the Paddington cast that is just as gentle and charming as the previous movies, even though it features bigger adventure setpieces and takes place in a very different location from the quiet London neighborhood of the first two movies.
Paddington's name is derived from the fact that his adoptive family, the Browns, discovered him at Paddington Station in London.
However, in addition to fueling the adventure angle of the movie, Aunt Lucy's disappearance will likely provide the emotional core of the new movie. While she does not appear onscreen very often in the Paddington movies, Aunt Lucy's teachings are what helped allow the hapless young bear to thrive during his time in England in addition to helping improve the lives of those around him. Allowing her to accomplish her dream of visiting London was also an important desire of the title character's that fueled the poignant Paddington 2 ending.
Paddington In Peru Has The Chance To Be Just As Sweet
The Movie Has Already Received Glowing Praise
It makes sense that Paddington in Peru reviews have earned the new movie a stellar 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. This new image highlights what has been the strength of the franchise from the very beginning. Paddington is unerringly kind, no matter what place he finds himself, and his deep desire to rescue his Aunt Lucy will catalyze the people around him to tap into their own internal wells of kindness, however hidden they may be.
