New Halo Remake Trailer Is All Footage From PS5 Pro, Confusing Xbox Fans

2 hours ago 5

The official Halo YouTube channel posted a new story trailer for the upcoming remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved. That in and of itself is no big deal. However, despite being an Xbox-owned franchise, all of the footage seen in the new trailer was captured on a PS5 Pro, a fact that amused, confused, and angered a vast number of gamers online.

On June 8, various official Halo accounts published a new three-minute-long “Cinematic Story Trailer” for Halo: Campaign Evolved that shows off a bunch of moments from the original game, but remade and looking sharper than ever. The trailer looks pretty good, and even if I have mixed feelings about the idea of remaking Halo: Combat Evolved (again), I’m curious how this reimagined spin on the classic will play. But, based on all the online reactions, seemingly the biggest takeaway from the trailer for many was that Xbox captured all the footage on a PS5 Pro, as noted by a simple message seen at the bottom of the video at the start.

A mysterious ring. A lone Spartan.

This is Halo completely rebuilt.

Accounts like Wario64, Charlie Intel, and Paul Tassi highlighted the “Captured On PS5 Pro” note, leading to a lot of reactions. Many were confused as to why Xbox didn’t just use a PC to capture the footage. Sure, the PS5 Pro is more powerful than the Xbox Series X, but it seems odd to highlight that fact.

One possible suggestion floating around for why the trailer may have used PS5 footage is that it was supposed to be at a Sony event. Verge reporter Tom Warren speculated that perhaps this PS5 Pro note and the trailer using footage from Sony’s console is a sign that the trailer was planned to appear at the PlayStation State of Play last week before being pulled. Reliable leaker Rebs Gaming says that was the plan. That might sound like a strangely last-minute change, but keep in mind that it’s reported that the decision for Gears of War: E-Day to skip PS5 happened very recently as Xbox leadership returns to having some games be console exclusive.

Reactions online varied from jokes to fanboy disgust to confusion.
