Dungeons & Dragons' immense popularity has seen it grow far beyond the original tabletop RPG, and a unique take on the game will soon be available to a much wider audience when it comes to a new platform later this year. D&D is getting great adventure books all the time, both official and unofficial ones created via the SRD, and also wildly popular adaptations like Baldur's Gate 3, but its license is also being used for all sorts of clever twists.
One such game is Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, a tactical roleplaying game that brings turn-based combat into a virtual tabletop. It has been out for a while already, but is now heading to Xbox later in 2026. Battlemarked will be available on Xbox Series X/S, and via Xbox on PC and Xbox Handheld, with Xbox Play Anywhere support. The Xbox version will feature cross-play co-op with PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and Meta Quest.
The D&D-inspired RPG is a successor to the original Demeo, which launched in 2021 as a VR title (thus Battlemarked's VR support). The original Demeo's mechanics have now been combined with Dungeons & Dragons classes and storytelling in Battlemarked, which retains its predecessor's virtual tabletop aesthetic. While Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked retains some light roleplaying elements, it's largely focused on turn-based combat, which often requires clever thinking and coordinated teamwork.
Battlemarked is likely to be especially attractive to those who appreciate playing D&D in person. Instead of fully animated characters, Demeo uses virtual miniatures and dice—though it's not the exact same D20 system as the tabletop game. Battlemarked's multiple campaigns take place in the Forgotten Realms (D&D's default setting), and can be played by up to four players cooperatively.
A belated release on Xbox is better than none at all, and it's ultimately unsurprising that this is the platform that's been left out since Battlemarked initially released last November. Xbox hardware sales have been well behind competitors' for quite a while now, two whole console generations. Battlemarked is sure to find a new audience on a new platform, though, and it's an exciting occasion for developer and publisher Resolution Games.
One of the great benefits to D&D's ever-growing popularity is that it can help propel unique projects like Battlemarked. A feature film and major hits like Baldur's Gate 3 helped Dungoens & Dragons reach new heights of popularity, but the Forgotten Realms are vast, as are the experiences to be found there. There isn't a set date for Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked's arrival on Xbox, but it will happen before 2026 is out.
