Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena game based on the Dragon Ball franchise, but that's about to change after its first year anniversary celebrations. While the game will remain free-to-play, it will shift from a MOBA to a third-person fighting game. Significant gameplay changes will be made to Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra over the next few months, as the overhaul begins alongside its transition into another game genre.
According to the developer letter, the skill gap between players was too wide, which led to beginners having poor experience with Gekishin Squadra and ultimately quitting. The objective of this overhaul is to keep the game fun for veterans but also accessible for beginners. To do this, the devs are changing the camera perspective, gameplay rules, and role system.

Gekishin Squadra will no longer feature a top-down view of the battlefield, which is one of the key elements that defined the game. Instead, players will get a closer look with a modified camera perspective. The developers believe that Gekishin Squadra's "strategic depth and knowledge-based mechanics" are one of the reasons why the skill gap became so noticeable. In an attempt to fix this, the game's rules and maps will receive an overhaul. Lastly, character roles will change, so fans can enjoy their favorite Dragon Ball characters regardless of their role in battle. The developer letter mentions that the system will be simplified, which probably means players will be able to pick character roles or that their unique stats won't matter as much.
Additionally, customization features will improve in order to provide players with a better battle experience and great visual effects; character acquisition will be simplified, and advanced gameplay elements will be expanded.

On X, the announcement post was flooded with replies from unhappy players trying to stop these changes from moving forward. Some fans are not happy with the fact that the game they've been playing for the past year will be revamped in its entirety, turning it into a whole different thing. Even though these changes are only expected to come into full effect by the end of the year, many have already claimed to have uninstalled Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra.
It is unknown if the developers will back down after seeing the negative player feedback or if they will still move forward with this complete overhaul.
