What just happened? Are dual-mode monitors set to become the next standard? Asrock has just announced a new display that comes with this mode-switcher, offering both a 4K resolution at 240Hz and 1,920 x 1,080 with a refresh rate that is doubled to 480Hz. It also has several compelling features, including built-in Wi-Fi antennas that supports up to Wi-Fi 7.
Asrock's PG32UFS sounds like it could be an excellent gaming display. That dual-mode feature on the 31.5-inch W-OLED panel is the same 4K@240Hz/1080p@480Hz as the LG 32GS95UE, which we gave a score of 85.
Elsewhere, the DisplayHDR True Black 400-certified PG32UFS has a peak HDR brightness of 1,300 nits and a full-screen brightness of 275 nits. There's also 99% DCI-P3 coverage and 132% sRGB coverage, a 0.03ms GTG response time, a Delta E of less than 2, support for AMD FreeSync Pro, and a built-in KVM switch, allowing seamless switching between two or more connected computers at the press of a button.
Port-wise, there are two HDMI 2.1 ports, two DisplayPort 1.4, three USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-B, and one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C with DP Alt Mode and 65W power delivery. You also get two 5-watt stereo speakers and a passive graphene heatsink to keep the panel cool, reducing the risk of burn-in.
The PG32UFS is another Asrock monitor with built-in Wi-Fi antennas. The company launched what it called the first-ever monitor to offer this feature in 2022, the 34-inch PG34WQ15R2B. The antennas connect to a PC to increase a wireless signal's peak gain, improving the online gaming experience. Asrock said that the antennas are designed for PCs that sit beneath desks and often have their signals hampered by the furniture.
The antennas in the new monitor come with support for the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard.
No word yet on how much the PG32UFS will cost. For comparison, the LG 32GS95UE is currently reduced from $1,399 to $999.
Asrock also announced the PF27QFS (below), a 27-inch 2,560 x 1,440 WOLED monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate. It features a KVM switch and DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification. There's also the PG27QFV. Asrock has not provided any details about that one, but it is presumably a slight variation of the PF27QFS.
We heard reports earlier today that ViewSonic is set to unveil a 1440p OLED gaming monitor with a 520Hz refresh rate at CES 2025. It's also releasing a dual-mode 4K monitor with the same resolutions and refresh rates as Asrock's just-announced model.
