Backrooms is exploring uncharted territory at the box office.

The buzzy A24 horror movie, which was directed by the now 21-year-old Kane Parsons, is adapted from his own creepypasta-inspired web series. 2026's Backrooms debuted on May 29, rocketing to a whopping $81.4 million during its 3-day domestic opening weekend, which was the biggest ever debut for a 2026 horror movie (so far) and for an A24 movie of any genre. Although it had a brutal week 2 drop of 67.7% that revealed that it was significantly more frontloaded than the 2026 horror sleeper hit Backrooms, it has continued climbing, becoming one of the Top 10 movies of 2026 worldwide.

Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Backrooms is projected to close out its fourth weekend in theaters by hitting a cumulative global box office total of $300 million, comprising $175 million from domestic theaters and an additional $125 million from international markets. In addition to becoming the tenth 2026 release to pass the $300 million global milestone (behind the weekend's new release Toy Story 5, which hit that mark slightly quicker during its global debut), it is the first A24 movie to ever do so.

This record is made even more impressive by the fact that it is the only A24 movie to have grossed more than $200 million. Previously, the studio's highest-grossing release both domestically and worldwide was the Timothée Chalamet ping pong drama Marty Supreme, which grossed $96 million in North America and $191.3 million globally. Below, see a breakdown of A24's Top 10 movies worldwide:
