Siren: a demo is available now too.
SFB Games, the creator of acclaimed PS1-style retro-horror Crow Country, has a new game coming this year: The Mermaid Mask. It's a follow-up to the equally acclaimed detective game Tangle Tower and, according to SFB, will arrive on PC and consoles this summer. Better yet, there's a demo available for The Mermaid Mask on Steam now.
Tangle Tower, a vibrant, illustrative-style point-and-click murder mystery, came out in late 2019 and has had an Overwhelmingly Positive reception on Steam; we didn't review it, sadly. The Mermaid Mask is very much the same thing, billed as the next instalment in this Detective Grimoire series. It tells the tale of a legendary submarine captain who has been suddenly killed - a mystery you must get to the bottom of.
Voice actors Edwyn Tiong (Loco Motive, Harold Halibut) and Amber Lee Connors (Demon Slayer, The Outer Worlds 2) feature, with more cast to be revealed soon.
"We've been working on The Mermaid Mask for a long time - never before have we poured so much love and care into a single project, and it's become something quite remarkable," commented creative director Adam Vian in a press release.
"In 2024, our survival-horror game Crow Country became a surprise hit, which diverted our attention a little longer than we'd initially intended (a good problem to have, as Crow Country was wonderfully well received)."
Vian added that this is a "self-contained" entry in the series so no prior knowledge of Tangle Tower is necessary.
Crow Country came out in 2024 and turned heads with its PS1-style visuals. But as we discovered in our review, nostalgia wasn't the only thing the game had going for it. "More than just its nostalgic visuals, Crow Country is funny, self-aware, and extremely hard to put down," we said in our four-star Crow Country review.
