EXCLUSIVE: Netflix is going deeper into the podcast world.
The streamer has a struck an exclusive global deal to host Outlore with Eleanor Neale, the widely-followed true crime podcast out of the UK.
Outlore, which Eleanor Neale started in 2018, has more than 500 million views on YouTube and over 2.8 million subscribers. It began when she noticed a gap in the UK market for true crime stories similar to the U.S. podcasts that were stacking up views.
The show sees Neale, a true-crime fan since childhood, explore the psychology of how crimes are committed, and looks to tell the story of a victim before the headlines they generated.
“I created Outlore as a space to explore true crime cases with the care they deserve, while still speaking with my audience in a way that feels natural, conversational and distinctly British,” said Neale. “It’s resonated with more people than I ever could have imagined, and having Netflix recognise what makes the show special is so incredibly exciting. I’m so proud to be bringing Outlore to a new audience while staying true to the values it was built on.”
Neale began posting lifestyle videos in 2017, but switched to true crime a year later and quickly amassed a sizeable audience.
For Netflix, this is a latest podcast play. Earlier this year, it teamed with Goalhanger for daily World Cup-themed episodes of The Rest is Football, and then extended the pact to run through the current English Premiere league season and next.
Neale is managed and co-founder of Moth Mgmt, and represented by agents at UTA.
