Longcross Studios, the UK facility that is owned by Netflix and has housed productions like Guardians of the Galaxy and Skyfall, is set to undergo major renovation works.

Longcross is based in Surrey, England. The BBC reports that the studio has been granted planning permission to build new sound stages and flexible backlot facilities across its 64-acre site.

“The development will provide a range of economic benefits both locally and through the support of the UK film and TV industry,” officials told the local Council, according to media reports.

Local media reports state that Longcross was used as a tank-testing facility by army researchers before becoming a film studio in 2006. Netflix bought the site in 2021. At the time, Netflix said it had partnered with asset management firm Aviva to operate and expand the complex.

The existing facility includes four main stages, 200 acres of backlot, a two-and-a-quarter-mile test track, an off-road course, and a 150-year-old manor house, which has been home to the series Call The Midwife.

Other projects filmed at the facility include Guardians of the Galaxy, Skyfall, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Artemis Fowl, and The King’s Man.
