The Scooby-Doo Origins gang have some exciting news.
According to Netflix's official Instagram account, the upcoming live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins has officially completed production. This marks another major step forward for the streaming platform's highly anticipated adaptation of the classic cartoon series that is supposed to debut in 2027.
The streaming service announced on Sunday, September 13, 2026, that filming has wrapped on the new series. Netflix's Scooby-Doo Origins will offer a modern-day version of the familiar group of young detectives from the beloved franchise. Production took place in Atlanta, Georgia, a location that has also served as the filming base for other Netflix projects, such as Stranger Things and His & Hers.
Scooby-Doo: Origins will explore the early days of Shaggy Rogers (Tanner Hagen), Daphne Blake (McKenna Grace), Velma Dinkley (Abby Ryder Fortson), and Fred Jones' (Maxwell Jenkins) lives. According to the show's official synopsis, these characters will come together while trying to solve a mystery involving a puppy named Scooby-Doo.
The story begins during Shaggy and Daphne’s final summer at camp. The two friends get dragged into a strange case that revolves around a lost Great Dane puppy. They realized that the dog may have witnessed what appears to be a supernatural murder, taking them on a dangerous mission.
Daphne and Shaggy eventually cross paths with Velma and Fred while looking into the murder. The four teenagers work together in an attempt to understand what happened. However, they are forced to confront dangerous situations and uncover some very dark secrets along the way.
One of the most notable changes in the upcoming adaptation involves Scooby-Doo himself. Rather than relying entirely on animation or visual effects for the famous character, the Netflix series will use a real Great Dane puppy. This is the first time a live-action adaptation has made the decision to use a real animal instead of a CGI-generated character.
There is no confirmed release date for Netflix's Scooby-Doo: Origins at the time of this article's publication. However, it is expected to be released sometime in 2027.
