This 6-part Netflix crime thriller has become one of the most successful new releases on the streaming platform this March, making it one of the few truly must-binge series right now. Released on Friday, March 13, 2026, this gripping mystery series is full of suspense and twists that have kept viewers hooked throughout its debut weekend.

That Night Is A Must-Binge On Netflix – Now Top 3 Worldwide

That Night has taken the world by storm in its first few days on Netflix, ranking as high as #3 on the streamer's global viewership charts, only behind One Piece and Virgin River. The series takes place in the Dominican Republic, where a group of sisters, named Arbizu, celebrate what they plan to be the evacuation of a lifetime.

However, things quickly go sideways when the youngest sister of the pack hits a man with her car after a night of partying. The woman claims that the man held a gun up to her while she was in the car, but it is soon revealed that the apparent victim was a police officer. The sisters all come to the aid of their youngest, devising a plan to hide the body and flee the country, testing the limits of their bond.

That Night rests on the classic question found in many crime thriller series – how far would you go to protect someone you love? The series wastes no time in setting up the central predicament, such as hiding the body of the deceased and protecting the youngest sister at all costs. The 6-part Netflix series is based on the popular novel written by Gillian McAllister.

That Night has captivated audiences since its release late last week and is poised to hold onto its #3 worldwide spot throughout the week, which offers a notably light slate of new releases as the 2026 March Madness NCAA Tournament kicks off. That said, those uninterested in sports should absolutely check out That Night as it is by far and away the most trending new crime thriller series streaming right now.

How That Night On Netflix Became A Global Streaming Hit

That Night checks a lot of the boxes for an instant Netflix success at face value, having only six episodes, which makes it possible to binge the whole show from start to finish in just one night. Additionally, it was released on a Friday, one of the most popular days for new releases, and does not have much competition on Netflix's slate, compared to January and February, which provided a wider variety of new and returning streaming series.

That Night is also mostly well-received by critics but is actually somewhat divisive. A small majority of critics gave the series high marks, while some gave That Night very low scores, as evidenced by its 63% Rotten Tomatoes score. This type of extreme divide among critics, in which one gave a 4/5 star rating, and another gave it 1/5 stars, for example, is rather interesting, if not odd.

Our sister site, Collider, gave That Night 8/10 stars, noting, "It may begin as a high-stakes thriller about the consequences of an unwitting kill, but That Night evolves into a far more resonant family drama, one that gorgeously and quite painfully questions the worth of family loyalty." Based on the popularity alone, however, That Night has proven it has the appeal to attract a global audience, and is certainly worth checking out on Netflix.
