Netflix’s 2018 reboot of the classic sci-fi series Lost in Space is an underappreciated masterpiece that you can binge in just one weekend. It can be hard to find a TV show that you can binge in a single weekend. Getting into a show like Grey’s Anatomy or The Walking Dead, with hundreds upon hundreds of episodes to catch up on, can be pretty daunting.

But something like Chernobyl or Band of Brothers or Fleabag allows you to enjoy the full scope of a television masterpiece in just a few hours. Netflix’s 28-episode Lost in Space reboot is a little longer than those shows, but you can still watch the whole thing in a weekend.

What Is Lost In Space About?

Netflix’s Lost in Space is a reimagining of the classic show of the same name from the 1960s. Much like the original, it’s a spacebound retelling of The Swiss Family Robinson. It takes place in a future where a devastating impact event has ravaged the Earth and threatened humanity’s survival on its own homeworld.

After the Robinsons are selected for one of the missions sending families and citizens to colonize the Alpha Centauri planetary system, their spaceship gets knocked off-course, and they end up stranded deep in the cosmos. This leads to a series of wild spacefaring misadventures.

How Netflix's Lost In Space Compares To The Original

The most obvious difference between Netflix’s Lost in Space and the ‘60s original is the modern visual effects. With a blockbuster budget and advanced CGI technologies, Netflix’s Lost in Space is much more visually impressive than the original.

But it does replicate the biggest strength of the original series: its huge heart. The spectacle gets sci-fi fans on board, but the heart of the story ensures that it appeals to non-sci-fi fans, too. The world is unrecognizable, but the family’s relationships feel all too real.

Why Lost In Space Is Worth A Binge

Much like the original show from the ‘60s, Lost in Space is absolutely worth a binge. Since it only has 28 episodes across three seasons, some of which aren’t even a full hour, you can get through it in no time. For that reason alone, it’s at least worth taking a chance. But even if it had 280 episodes, it would be worth watching, because it’s a wonderful show.

It’s not a straightforward sci-fi show; it’s a family drama that happens to take place in outer space in the distant future. Lost in Space has the perfect blend of heart, humor, and spectacle that all the best blockbusters have mastered.
