Netflix's Hit Period Drama Is So Massive, It's Already Renewed For 2 More Seasons

Four seasons have been released so far. Bridgerton was renewed for seasons 5 and 6 months before season 4 premiered earlier this year, proving Netflix's continued faith in the franchise as it gears up to produce its most groundbreaking romance yet. Luckily, this early dual-season renewal also means fans will have a much shorter wait between seasons 4 and 5, as Netflix has confirmed that Bridgerton's fifth outing will premiere sometime in 2027, a noticeable change from the show's previous two, nearly three-year breaks.

Which Characters Bridgerton Seasons 5 & 6 Will Focus On

With Daphne, Anthony, Colin, and Benedict paired off, it's time for the next two Bridgerton siblings to find their happily-ever-afters. In the show's second departure from Quinn's book order, Bridgerton season 5 will adapt Francesca Bridgerton's second-chance love story. Later, season 6 will finally give Eloise Bridgerton a chance to find her purpose and her unlikely soulmate. Given the events of Bridgerton season 4, in which Francesca becomes a tragically young widow after her husband John's sudden death, it's no surprise that Bridgerton will focus on her story next, as she grows ever closer to John's cousin, Michaela.

Bridgerton season 5 will feature the franchise's first sapphic love story, although it isn't the Bridgerton universe's only queer romance. Benedict realized he was bisexual in season 3, and the Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story limited series spinoff included a secondary romance between the Queen's valet, Brimsley, and the King's secretary, Reynolds. Based on the story in Francesca's book, When He Was Wicked, the upcoming season will also be the first to be set largely away from London society, as Francesca and Michaela journey to the Kilmartin estate in Scotland.

Like other seasons of Bridgerton, season 5 will presumably also set up Eloise's love story from To Sir Phillip, With Love, in which she begins a written correspondence with a character previously introduced in Bridgerton season 1: Sir Philip Crane. Since Philip is so intricately tied to the fate of Penelope Bridgerton's cousin, Marina, there's a lot the show will need to do to ensure Eloise's story feels right for the character in season 6. If any creative team can pull off this kind of romance, though, it's Bridgerton's.

How Long Bridgerton Can Last On Netflix

Netflix may wait to see how well Bridgerton season 5 performs before handing out any more early renewals. Eloise is the last of the "elder" Bridgerton siblings, after all, though younger brother and sister George and Hyacinth also have their own respective love stories in Quinn's eight-book series. They've grown up since Bridgerton season 1, with George now attending the prestigious Eton College and Hyacinth preparing to make her debut. By the time Netflix is ready to consider seasons 7 and 8, the characters would certainly be old enough to lead their own romances.

There are even more Bridgerton-related books that Netflix and Shondaland could choose to option if the series continued to maintain its incredible popularity, including the Georgian-era Rokesby series, a four-book prequel saga focused on the Bridgerton family's closest neighbors. If Netflix were interested in creating another prequel miniseries akin to Queen Charlotte, however, the most logical option would be to focus on Violet Bridgerton's story with her late husband, Edmund. Their once-in-a-lifetime romance inspired their children to pursue true love matches, too. For now, at least, Bridgerton has enough options to continue its reign as one of Netflix's most successful original franchises of all time.
