Love it or hate it, you've probably encountered the Twilight series at some point in your life. And the popularity of the vampire romantic drama is not over yet: Netflix is taking Midnight Sun, a 2020 novel that retells Twilight from Edward Cullen's perspective, and turning it into an animated series. It is now confirmed that the Midnight Sun adaptation will be a two-season series.
Twilight is a fantasy movie starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and it took the world by storm in 2008. It is an adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's 2005 vampire romance book. Despite being heavily parodied at the time, it had a following of millions. For many, it was the best thing since sliced bread. Whether you fall into that category or not, you might be interested in Netflix's animated series adaptation.
Netflix is dipping its toes into the Twilight saga with the release of an animated show called Midnight Sun, based on the 2020 novel by Stephenie Meyer. While the original Twilight book is narrated by Bella Swan, Midnight Sun goes through the same events but from Edward Cullen's point of view.

It's an interesting perspective, and we get first-hand experience of what he was thinking at key points in the story — like the biology classroom scene — which is completely different compared to Bella's point of view.
Despite Midnight Sun being only one book, Netflix is extending the adaptation into a two-season series. Actors were being actively cast for the series this summer, and reports indicate that production was scheduled to take place between August 2026 and May 2027. Beyond that, not much has been revealed, which isn't surprising since Twilight fans will know most of the plot details already.
Midnight Sun might sound like a strange pick for an adaptation, but the popularity of the franchise hasn't waned yet. Whether it's because of nostalgia or genuine love for the story and characters, the Twilight series is still able to rise to the top of the charts nearly 20 years later.
Fans are eager to return to the gloomy town of Forks, Washington, but the series is not coming out just yet. Netflix's Midnight Sun is currently in development, and it does not have a release window at the time of writing.
