Netflix's 3-Part Agatha Christie Mystery Landed Two Of Britain's Biggest Stars

Created by Doctor Who's Chris Chibnall, Netflix's Agatha Christie's Seven Dials is a stylish, fast-paced, 1920s-set adaptation of The Seven Dials Mystery, introducing plucky young amateur sleuth Lady Eileen "Bundle" Brent (Mia McKenna-Bruce) as she investigates the sudden and suspicious death of her friend, Gerry Wade (Corey Mylchreest), after a masquerade party at her family's estate.

Anyone familiar with BritBox's vast catalog of BBC and ITV-produced detective and crime dramas will recognize many of Seven Dials' cast members, if not by name, then certainly by face. McKenna-Bruce is joined in her star-making turn by actors like Game of Thrones' Iain Glenn and the BBC's future young Hercule Poirot, Edward Bluemel (My Lady Jane), as Bundle uncovers a mysterious underground society and her family's long-buried secrets. Most notably, however, Seven Dials features two of Britain's most renowned actors: Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter, The Crown) and Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit).

The Seven Dials Mystery is one of Christie's more experimental, absurdist stories, held together by Bundle's unending enthusiasm and determination. In Chibnall's adaptation, there's additional focus on the characters and their relationships, especially Bundle's dynamic with her mother, Lady Caterham (Bonham Carter), and her inadvertent partnership with Martin Freeman's studiously clever Superintendent Battle.

Every moment they're on the screen, it's clear that they care about the source material and have a strong desire to do it justice. McKenna-Bruce is incredibly charming as Bundle, a curious and capable amateur sleuth viewers will easily relate to, especially in her most vulnerable moments. Helena Bonham Carter adds her unique brand of British aristocratic zaniness to the proceedings, while Freeman channels Dr. John Watson's relatable personality and Hercule Poirot's investigative prowess with ease. Agatha Christie's Seven Dials is worth watching for the performances alone, with everyone involved at the top of their game.

The supporting cast is equally memorable, especially Bluemel as the slippery and charismatic Jimmy Thesiger — it's clear to see why he'll excel as a young Hercule Poirot in the upcoming Hercule series. While Iain Glenn is sadly underutilized, he always brings a certain gravitas to every role. Corey Mylchreest channels his inner romantic Bridgerton hero, even in his short turn as Gerry Wade, and Nyasha Hatendi's quiet, subtle performance as Dr. Cyril Matip is powerful enough to upend the whole story. Altogether, Seven Dials has one of the strongest modern casts for a Christie adaptation.

Agatha Christie's Seven Dials Is One Of Netflix's Easiest Binge-Watches

Christie's stories are always suited to a binge; every twist and turn demands readers and viewers move on to the next chapter, scene, or even the next episode. The same is even more true for Agatha Christie's Seven Dials. It consists of only three hour-long episodes, similar to the BBC's 2023 Murder Is Easy miniseries or 2025's Agatha Christie's Towards Zero. It's perfect for a weekend afternoon or even weekday evening marathon session. It's essentially just an extended movie split into three parts.

Despite Seven Dials' compact story, Netflix and Chibnall's miniseries does leave room for Bundle Brent's and Superintendent Battle's return. The case Bundle investigates is linked to a wider, influential secret spy society, one which could easily draw the young detective into another mysterious adventure. While Netflix's Agatha Christie's Seven Dials combines elements of both of Christie's Bundle-centric stories, the creative team could easily come up with something entirely new to bring this great cast together one more time.
