Nebula has set the cast for its upcoming short film from “Night of the Coconut” director and popular video essayist Patrick Willems, “The Dinner Plan.” A dark comedy about a guy with a rare food allergy who’s trying to make it through a stressful dinner party at his boss’s house, the cast includes “The Tick” star Griffin Newman, “American Fiction’s” Miriam Shor and “Severance” star Zach Cherry, among four other stars.
Per the logline for “The Dinner Plan,” “When he’s pressured into attending a dinner party hosted by his boss, a man who suffers from a rare food allergy must navigate the most stressful night of his life with one primary objective: just don’t throw up in front of everyone.”
Actors joining the ensemble cast for the project include Newman, Shor, John Hodgman (“Dicktown,” “The Daily Show,” “The Tick,” “Coraline”), Eudora Peterson (“Fantasmas,” “Problemista”), Geoffrey Cantor (“Madam Secretary,” “House of Cards”), Cherry and Cindy Cheung (“The Sinner,” “Dying For Sex”).
“The Dinner Plan” was written by Jacob Torpey and Michael Curran based on a story from Willems. Willems will direct the project, with Nebula’s Dave Wiskus and Trenton Waterson producing. Zara Glaze is an executive producer. Casting directors include Djinous Rowling and Molly Pinto.
Filming will take place this month in New York. The short film will be released next year exclusively on Nebula.
“’The Dinner Plan’ started as this weird idea I mentioned to Dave at a dinner two years ago, and it’s surreal now to see this crew of dozens of incredibly talented people working together to actually make it happen,” Willems said. “We always knew that putting together a good ensemble was key to making the film work, but the group we got has exceeded all my expectations.”
“The casting process has been a real joy, and it’s amazing to see how much talent Djinous and Molly were able to bring to the literal table for us,” Nebula CEO Dave Wiskus said. “I couldn’t be more excited to watch these folks work.”
Newman is repped by CAA and Circle Management, Shor by Gersh and Impression Entertainment, Hodgman by UTA, Peterson and Cherry by CAA and Edna Cowan Management, Cantor by CGF Talent and Saks&, and Cheung by Nicolosi & Co. and PH Entertainment Group.
