NBC has decided whether to move forward with The Hunting Party season 3.

As reported by Deadline, NBC has canceled The Hunting Party after season 2. However, Universal Television is expected to shop the series elsewhere, with Netflix being a possibility. This was NBC's last 2025-2026 show whose potential renewal had yet to be decided, with the decision being delayed as executives needed more time to analyze its linear and streaming performance.

With NBCUniversal having already done their upfronts presentation for 2026-2027, chances of The Hunting Party being renewed afterward were already low. Law & Order: SVU season 28 had already taken the crime drama's Thursday night slot from 9-10 p.m. ET.

At the upfronts, Jeff Bader, NBCUniversal’s President of Program Planning Strategy, shared with Deadline that “We’re looking for places where we can grow the network, and that is a time period where we think we can do better. Nothing negative about Hunting Party, but for our linear schedule, we absolutely need to try and do a little bit better there.”

The Hunting Party's streaming success allowed it to last longer despite its struggling linear ratings. Along with the high viewership it has enjoyed on Netflix since February, it has performed well on Peacock. Because of this, there were reportedly discussions about season 3 becoming a Peacock original series instead of returning to NBC, although this route was not taken in the end.

This is not the first time that Roxburgh has had an NBC series canceled, nor is it the first time that one of her shows could be saved by Netflix. Manifest was famously canceled after season 3, leaving numerous cliffhangers and mysteries temporarily unresolved. With the show becoming a massive streaming hit on Netflix, the platform brought it back for a fourth, final, and extended season.

Creator Jeff Rake's six-season plan did not become a reality, but Michaela Stone (Roxburgh) and the rest of Manifest's characters did get an ending and most of the mysteries were answered.

With The Hunting Party canceled, having done well on Netflix, and now being shopped around, it has the potential to follow a similar trajectory to Manifest. Since the show had better streaming than linear performance, Netflix could even become a more fitting home for the next chapter in Bex's story.

In addition to Roxburgh, the cast of The Hunting Party included Patrick Sabongui, Josh McKenzie, Sara Garcia, Nick Wechsler, Zabryna Guevara, Kari Matchett, Matt Frewer, and Siobhan Williams, and the series was created by JJ Bailey.
