NBC High-Concept Prison-Based Drama ‘The Hunting Party’ Gets Haunting First Teaser

An elite task force of investigators has its hands full when an off-the-books max-security prison sees a massive breach, leading to the escape of the most notorious convicts. In a first teaser for NBC‘s forthcoming crime procedural, The Hunting Party, Melissa Roxburgh‘s (of Manifest, Quantum Leap) ex-FBI agent Rebecca Henderson must spearhead a search to round up the escaped criminals.

Set to a haunting rendition of Blondie’s “One Way Or Another,” the new look at the high-concept drama — due for release Feb. 3 with next-day streaming — previews “The Pit,” an underground panopticon-like hexagonal structure, described in a voiceover as a  “a classified prison home to the most violent and dangerous criminals the world has ever known.”

Following a blast of mysterious origins, Rebecca (“Bex”) must track down the inmates, leading a team to uncover the origins of the explosion and the reasoning behind it. The jam-packed 30-second first-look features a shot of the earth-shaking bombing, as well as car chases, fights and even a dead body, as Bex and her squad struggle to get ahead of the crisis.

In addition to Roxburgh’s savvy profiler, The Hunting Party stars Nick Wechsler (Revenge, Chicago PD) as Oliver Odell, Patrick Sabongui (Homeland, The Flash) as Ryan Hassani, Josh McKenzie (La Brea) as Shane Florence and Sara Garcia (Ride, The Flash) as Jennifer Morales. Additionally, Kyra Leroux (Riverdale) joins the series in a recurring role.

Co-showrunners JJ Bailey (creator) and Jake Coburn are writers and executive producers for The Hunting Party. Thor Freudenthal was exclusively announced as pilot director and executive producer by Deadline earlier this year. Keto Shimizu is also writer and EP. The Hunting Party is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The Hunting Party premieres on NBC Monday, Feb. 3 at 10/9c, following the season premiere of The Voice.
