As the final reveal of the night for The Game Awards 2024, developer Naughty Dog revealed its next game to be Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and is currently in development for PlayStation. According to studio head Neil Druckmann, the studio’s new IP has been in development since 2020.
In the roughly four-and-a-half-minute trailer, the main character Jordan, played by Tati Gabrielle (also Nora in The Last of Us show), appears to be a bounty hunter lying low in deep space. According to the announcement post for Intergalactic on Naughty Dog’s website, Jordan is stranded on Sempiria, a planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. It’s up to Jordan to use her skills and wits to be the first person in over 600 years to leave the planet’s orbit.
The teaser looks solid enough, though obviously I have many questions. After all, Naughty Dog is known for its ability to craft incredible stories, so that’s what I’m interested in learning more about. However, The Game Awards creator and host Geoff Keighley revealed after the trailer that legendary composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will be scoring Intergalactic which has me pumped.
These types of reveals typically intend to drum up interest in preparation for bigger reveals later down the line, and in this case, it has served that purpose. Show me more, Naughty Dog!
