Natalie Bassingthwaighte has hit back at the 'malicious' and 'bitter' haters who routinely troll her same-sex relationship with girlfriend Pip Loth.

The Rogue Traders singer, who celebrated her 50th birthday on Sunday, took to Instagram on Tuesday to address the impact negative comments have on her relationship and family.

In the post, Natalie shared an old photograph of herself and revealed the young woman in the picture was 'lost', 'afraid', and 'doesn't like herself'.

'Came across this pic the other day,' Natalie began.

'This is a picture of me 30 or so yrs ago! I am sad, lost, fragile, afraid. I don’t like myself. I don’t know who I am! I lost the ability to use my words or even know what is was I wanted to say,' she continued.

In the picture, a young Natalie is fresh-faced and wears a floral halter neck dress with her blonde locks pulled back into a bun.

'It has taken me a long time to come out the other side of those feelings,' Natalie continued in her post.

'I have done the work and I will continue to do the work on myself. For me and those around me. Sadness can come from many areas in life: tragedy, trauma, LIFE!

'You don’t know where people have been or where they r [sic] going. What they have been through. Their traumas their triggers, their struggle to not only stay afloat but to keep swimming can resurface at anytime,' she continued.

'It was brought to my attention yesterday that some people felt the need to comment on my post with my girlfriend. It was intentionally malicious,' Natalie went on.

'My page is for people who want to feel loved and supported. Who don’t judge. Who don’t belittle or make people feel like a bad person.

'My mental health has been a struggle and I have come out the other side but I manage it daily! I have had close dear people commit suicide because of people like you! Enough now!

'If you don’t have anything nice to say to people don’t say anything at all!

'My mum taught me to always treat people how you would like to be treated and to me that is with love, kindness, respect and without judgement.'

'How dare you suggest I am not a great mother or a great person or comment on how I look!'

'It has taken me a long time to love who I am and I will not let you take that away,' she went on.

'I won’t lie, your hurtful comments set me back but I will be brave again, pick myself up as I always have and move forward.'

'To comment on my relationship with my partner, my ex and my children is uncalled for. We have all worked incredibly hard to get where we are and I am proud of all of us for that. We are safe we are happy and we are well.'

Natalie went on to say she 'forgives' the people who have done her wrong in the past.

'I can only imagine what you have been through, and for that I am sorry,' she wrote.

'I only hope that you take this and look inward and do the work.'
