An experienced Editor representing Canada via ScreenRant's Team Anime, J.R. has been reading manga since the first printing of Shonen Jump in North America. This passion drove him to write about anime, manga, and manhwa since 2022, having recently served as Lead Anime Editor for ComicBook.com.

His favorite moments in media coverage include reviewing the series premieres of Zom 100 and Bleach: TYBW Part 2 back-to-back and briefly meeting Junji Ito at a VIZ gallery event in 2023.

For the Naruto and Boruto fandom in 2026, despite every indication that the franchise is positively swimming in good news, the one update eluding the shinobi world has been that of its anime future. There have been thrilling glimpses teased at New York Comic Con with teases of "something big" and the global reveal of a brand-new Naruto anime explicitly laid out by the official Naruto website. This is arguably already plenty of hype, and suggests either a sequel Naruto project, the long-promised four episodes, or something more ambitious for longtime fans. But this isn't the only recent tease rolled out by Masashi Kishimoto's shinobi world.

Released on the evening of Thursday, October 1, 2026 (October 2 locally in Japan), Boruto launched its official 10th Anniversary homepage hub with a distorted transition from Naruto Next Generations into Two Blue Vortex. The site features a tasteful set of scrolling elements like new paperback volume releases and the debut of Volume 9, and commentary from longtime Naruto fan Shuji Okuda of the comedy duo Gakuten Soku. But it crucially also features some conspicuous teases yet to be revealed, including a "special movie" and, more curiously, an "advertisement" marked for release sometime this October, as the biggest current hint, with promises of more coming soon.

Naruto's New Boruto Site Lists Mysterious October Teaser & "Special Movie"

Boruto Official Website New Project advertisement

With Naruto Uzumaki's birthday being commemorated by a special NARUTO: What's Next? panel at New York Comic Con 2026 on October 10, fans are strongly advised to check the Boruto site for any coinciding updates as well. While new Naruto anime news is already likely to get a more enthusiastic response overall, it's important to consider the multiple years of Boruto content yet to be brought to the screen. The special movie tease could simply be another PV-style release akin to recent Boruto manga trailers, but doubling down on the hint with a release window below it suggests either greater significance to the trailer, or another reveal entirely on top of it.

As always, it's important to keep in mind that the Boruto part 2 anime is already confirmed. Any such "advertisement" that's not merely another trailer using animated panels, if not an outright trailer, would mean the classic unveiling of the next Boruto anime's poster, ahead of any animated first looks. It's a good reminder that even a poster or key visual would be more substantial anime news than practically any past update for Boruto, and an indication that fans won't have to wait much longer. Any further speculation is, for now, based on English interpretation of the "special movie" element, and how more Boruto anime would line up with any mainline Naruto projects.

What Boruto's Anime Feature Will Look Like

Given news already swirling about more Naruto anime, the approach the franchise appears to be taking resembles what was revealed earlier this year for Dragon Ball Super. That is, a newly-released, re-cut Dragon Ball Super: Beerus project tying in multiple subsequent arcs, intended as the definitive way to enjoy it, along with the reveal of Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol that same day, pushing the anime toward adapting new arcs. Boruto's anime, should it get a similar announcement at or near the Naruto NYCC event, will likely get such a reveal, with a poster being almost certainly the first glimpse for which fans can reasonably hope.

However, the "special movie", would be interesting as an anime film covering the Omnipotence Arc from Boruto: Naruto Next Generations before its Boruto: Two Blue Vortex timeskip. Close to a dozen chapters sit in that gap, setting up a fairly thrilling premise that'd work well on the big screen as it utterly destroys the status quo for Konoha, sending Boruto into exile, and throwing Naruto and Hinata into limbo. Beyond that, a thrilling, darker Boruto set three years ahead would remain perfect for weekly animated installments under Pierrot's newer, more polished seasonal approach.

A new Boruto film would still potentially face pacing issues in trying to hit a digestible two-hour runtime, but it would be an appealing way to set up the TV anime's future, especially given the recent success of canonical anime film adaptations. It's also a generally good reminder that 11 years have passed since the last movie in the franchise. Realistically, beyond the new Naruto anime, virtually any animated Boruto announcement will be welcome, as fans have waited more than long enough.
