Naruto is an anime filled with a variety of strong, skilled shinobi clans. Two of the most popular are the Uchiha and Hyuga clans. Still, people often forget that although Naruto grew up as an orphan, his Uzumaki lineage comprises equally or even more powerful shinobi. With only adoptive father figures like Iruka and Jiraiya, many tend to overlook that a powerful line of shinobi is connected to the protagonist by blood.

As the story of Naruto, the Seventh Hokage, unfolds, fans learn that he is not just a lonely orphan with dreams of becoming a Hokage. The Uzumaki clan, in fact, is one of the strongest clans to exist, with a history stretching from the beginning of time all the way to Boruto's generation. Known for their immense chakra reserves and sealing techniques, they have earned their place as a powerful force in the shinobi world.

Asura Otsutsuki

The Respected Ancestor of the Uzumaki Clan

Kaguya Otsutsuki, the true antagonist of Naruto, had grandsons through her son Hagoromo Otsutsuki: Indra and Asura. Indra is known to be the ancestor of the Uchiha clan, while Asura is the ancestor of the Uzumaki clan. Asura was featured in vital Naruto flashbacks, showcasing his struggles and battles. Like Naruto, he manifested the power of the six paths chakra during his conflicts with Indra.

Asura shared a mindset and goal similar to most Uzumaki, particularly Naruto, as he aimed to promote peace and eliminate senseless violence. This dedication led Hagoromo to choose Asura as his successor, provoking Indra's fury. With his immense chakra prowess, he created the Amenomihashira, also known as Asura's Orbit Rasengan, mirroring Naruto's ultimate technique. Ultimately, Asura's connection to the Uzumaki clan is proven through the chakra that resides within Naruto Uzumaki.

Mito Uzumaki

The Beloved Wife of Hashirama Senju

Despite marrying the legendary Hashirama Senju, Mito was also an extraordinary woman and kunoichi. She is one of the oldest Uzumaki clan members to be featured in the series and the first jinchūriki of the nine-tails, Kurama. As the wife of Hashirama, it can easily be assumed that she played a crucial role in the great foundation of the Village of Konoha. Mito has also been featured in the anime, having a few interactions with Naruto's mother, Kushina.

Mito Uzumaki was a calm and composed woman with immense compassion and also comforted Kushina when she feared being chosen as the next nine-tail host, as seen in the Minato special manga. Also, being married to Konoha's first Hokage has resulted in Mito having a strong sense of duty in protecting the villages, similar to Hashirama. She might not have been featured using her incredible skills on the battlefield; however, Kushina has always hailed her as a powerful kunoichi.

Karin Uzumaki

A Former Kunoichi of the Village Hidden in the Grass

Karin Uzumaki is another notable member of the Uzumaki clan. She was initially a subordinate of Orochimaru, helping him with his experiments. However, as the story progresses, she joins Sasuke's team, Hebi, and continues to appear in Boruto: Naruto Next Generation. While Karin wasn’t part of Naruto’s close family, she is still connected to him through their shared Uzumaki lineage.

Like most Uzumakis, Karin has tremendous chakra reserves, which provide her with a strong life force. This unique ability allows her to heal others by letting them bite and consume her chakra, quickly mending their wounds and even helping her recover from her own injuries. Despite being on the opposition's side at the beginning, Karin’s chakra reserves and knowledge make her a powerful Uzumaki descendant. Her abilities and loyalty prove that the strength of the Uzumaki clan extends far beyond Naruto’s immediate family.

Nagato Uzumaki

The Man Behind the Akatsuki Villain Group

Nagato Uzumaki is likely a distant cousin of Naruto, though their connection wasn’t deeply explored in the series beyond the fact that they share the same clan. Known by his alias, Pain, Nagato had the same master as Naruto—the legendary Jiraiya. Unfortunately, Nagato's tragic childhood, including the loss of his friend Yahiko, pushed him and Konan down a darker path.

Nagato eventually founded the Akatsuki and even fought Naruto during the iconic Pain Arc. As an Uzumaki descendant, Nagato possessed immense chakra, like many of his kin, and wielded the power of the Rinnegan. Despite being led astray, Nagato had a pure, compassionate heart, sharing the same desire for peace often seen among the Uzumakis. His misguided journey didn’t change the fact that, deep down, he yearned for a peaceful world, much like Naruto.

Kushina Uzumaki

The Seventh Hokage's Admiring Mother

Kushina may have died early, but she continued to play a significant role in her son's life, even after her death. However, she wasn’t just known for being Naruto’s mother. Fans saw her strong-willed, fiery personality through flashbacks and brief appearances with her son. She was chosen as a jinchūriki due to her immense and unique chakra reserves, making her a force to be reckoned with.

Kushina was also recognized for her exceptional sealing techniques, which she passed down to her only child. She was an incredible woman and kunoichi who willingly sacrificed her life to protect her husband and son. As the Seventh Hokage's mother and a fellow jinchūriki, Kushina understood Naruto's pain better than anyone, making her the perfect person to guide him. As a legendary member of the Uzumaki clan, Kushina’s strength and love inspired Naruto to overcome and counter the nine-tailed fox's hatred.

Minato Namikaze

The Yellow Flash of Konoha and Husband of Kushina

Minato Namikaze is one of the most popular and strongest characters in Naruto. While he might not be a direct descendant or blood-related shinobi of the Uzumaki clan, his marriage to Kushina Uzumaki and being Naruto’s father undeniably connect him to the clan. Little is known about the Namikaze clan, but Minato’s bond with the Uzumakis is clear through his family ties.

His use of powerful sealing techniques, a notable trait of the Uzumaki clan, further strengthens this connection. Additionally, Naruto inherited the Uzumaki name instead of Minato’s, deepening his ties to the clan. Minato may not have been born an Uzumaki, but being the husband of Kushina and the father of Naruto, two of the most prominent descendants of the clan gives him a lasting bond. His mastery of Uzumaki-style techniques and his role in Naruto’s life solidify Minato’s connection to the Uzumaki lineage.

Naruto Uzumaki

The Child of Prophecy from the Uzumakis

Naruto-Uzumaki (3)

Naruto Uzumaki, the protagonist of the series, is determined and full of dreams. He is an admirable shinobi who surpassed all the challenges and criticisms that came his way. Despite growing up without his parents, Naruto embodies the skills and character of the people from his clan. Like Mito and Kushina, he is also a jinchūriki of the nine-tailed fox, Kurama.

As a prominent descendant of the Uzumaki clan and the reincarnation of Asura Otsutsuki, Naruto possesses vast chakra reserves. Even as a genin, he had four times the chakra of a jonin like Kakashi Hatake, enabling him to produce multiple shadow clones, each carrying a fraction of his consciousness and strength. The traits of the Uzumakis are evident in Naruto’s strong will and resilience, which allowed him to fulfill his dream of becoming a Hokage and rise as one of the best and strongest shinobi in history.

Hinata Hyuga

A Loving Wife and Mother of the Uzumakis

Like Minato Namikaze, Hinata Hyuga is not a direct descendant or blood-related to the Uzumakis. As part of the renowned Hyuga clan of Konoha, her connection to the Uzumaki clan is rooted in her marriage to Naruto and their two children. Hinata’s skills as a kunoichi primarily showcase her own clan’s techniques, particularly her Byakugan, which grants her exceptional vision and insight.

Though Hinata may not have learned the Uzumaki sealing techniques like Minato, she embodies the spirit of notable Uzumaki women, especially that of Kushina, as a mother and wife. Initially known for her shy demeanor, her love for Naruto blossomed. As they built their family together, Hinata’s commitment to caring for and protecting her husband and children strengthened her ties to the Uzumaki clan. She is a proud member of the Hyuga clan and an essential part of the Uzumaki clan.

Boruto Uzumaki

Another Uzumaki Committed to Upholding the Clan's Legacy

Boruto Uzumaki

Boruto is another descendant of the Uzumaki family with the potential to become even more powerful than his father, Naruto Uzumaki, the child of prophecy. Growing up privileged due to his father's perseverance, Boruto mirrors Naruto's loud and stubborn phase in the beginning of Boruto: Naruto Next Generation. However, he also carries the principles and compassion that define the Uzumaki clan.

Like his father and grandmother, Boruto is determined and compassionate, which are vital traits of the Uzumakis. His Uzumaki lineage is evident in his vast chakra reserves, making him one of the best shinobi in the academy. However, Boruto cannot create hundreds of shadow clones, unlike his father. Instead, he can produce four shadow clones capable of performing skills ranging from chunin to jonin levels, even after all of his chakra has been absorbed. This unique ability highlights Boruto's resolve to honor his heritage while carving his own path.

Himawari Uzumaki

The Youngest Member of the Uzumaki Clan

Himawari is the cutest and youngest member of the Uzumaki Clan. Like all her ancestors, father, and brother, she possesses massive chakra reserves, leading fans to theorize that she might become the next jinchūriki of the nine-tailed fox, a theory that was proved true when it was revealed that Kurama reincarnated inside Himawari. As a kunoichi, Himawari has immense potential, inheriting vital traits from the Hyuga and Uzumaki clans.

Caring, playful, and loving, Himawari grew up surrounded by the warmth of her family. Despite being the youngest, she knows her lineage, particularly her grandfather and grandmother, whose stories have been shared. Although she has not yet performed any Uzumaki sealing techniques or ninjutsu to showcase her vast chakra, Himawari has already demonstrated jinchūriki-like powers in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. As the Boruto series progresses, more Uzumaki traits will undoubtedly be unveiled, showcasing her potential as she develops.
