Naomi Watts' daughter Kai Schreiber, 17, puffs on a cigarette as she shows off her supermodel strut during a stroll in New York

Naomi Watts' daughter Kai Schreiber has traded the Paris catwalk for the streets of New York, turning heads during a casual outing in the Big Apple. 

The 17-year-old budding model was spotted strolling through Downtown Manhattan in a striking ensemble.

Kai wore a black mini skirt paired with a white-and-navy striped long-sleeved top, completing the look with pointed black stilettos.

She carried a brown designer-style handbag over one shoulder as she puffed away on a cigarette. 

Kai was joined by a friend who appeared to offer her a light. 

The teenager recently scored another major career milestone, walking the runway for Dutch couture designer Iris van Herpen at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.

For the high-fashion appearance, she commanded attention in a shimmering, semi-sheer embellished gown covered in swirling crystal detailing.

She completed the futuristic ensemble with an elaborate sculptural headpiece that curved dramatically over her face.

Kai later shared footage from the runway on Instagram, celebrating the achievement by writing: 'I opened @irisvanherpen!!! Ty all.'

The booking marked another significant step in the teenager's fast-rising modelling career.

Kai made her runway debut for Valentino and has previously spoken openly about how the experience convinced her that modelling was the career she wanted to pursue.

'That job made me realise, "OK, this is what I want to do,"' she told Interview Magazine. '"I want to be a supermodel. Period."'

She also revealed that she had been practising her runway walk for years before landing her first major fashion job. 

'I've been practising my walks in the kitchen for years; my mum can show you all the videos I forced her to film,' she said.

Despite her increasingly glamorous career, Kai has said her everyday style is considerably more understated.

'I love my low-rise jeans and black cardigan. That's my go-to outfit,' she told the publication, adding that she believes individuality is what makes fashion exciting.

Kai is the daughter of Australian actress Naomi and American actor Liev Schreiber, who have both publicly supported her journey.

Naomi has previously praised her daughter on social media following her Interview Magazine feature, saying she was 'proud' of her and that Kai was 'continuing to kill it'.
