Ahead of the Pokémon Presents livestream which goes live later today, a mysterious new Pokémon project has appeared online. With today, 27 February, marking the 30th anniversary of the first ever Pokémon title, Pokémon Red and Green, both its creators and fans will be celebrating together with the livestream expected to shed light on the future of the franchise, ranging from the arrival of Gen 10, and the upcoming Pokémon Pokopia launch.

However, according to a mysterious post by Centro Leaks over on Twitter, the next mainline series Pokémon game is in the works and has the codename 'Project Karasu'.

Today is expected to be the day that we finally get confirmation of the arrival of Gen 10, with the first installment expected to be called Pokémon Wind and Waves, codename 'Gaia'. With only leaks and rumors so far, we could finally receive the announcement that we have all been waiting for, but until then, fans are curious about this brand-new leaked project.

Not expected to be a 'Gaia' DLC, Project Karasu may still tie in with Gen 10. In Greek mythology, Gaia was a goddess and personification of the Earth, sometimes being referred to as Mother Earth or the All-Mother. It is her that brought forth life. In relation, Karasu is the Japanese word for "crow" or "raven". If Gaia encompasses the land as a whole, animals such as crows and ravens are an important part of its infrastructure, but how else this ties into Gen 10 remains a mystery.

Additionally, with Twitter user soulsilverart pointing out that Project Karasu was not a part of the Pokémon roster before 2024, it is safe to assume that this is a recently new project.

What Exactly Is Project Karasu?

We are all asking the same question, but what Project Karasu is exactly remains a mystery. Centro Leaks claims that it is a "mainline" entry in the Pokémon series, but will not be part of the upcoming Gen 10 series, so we can safely assume that it will be a spin-off of some kind. However, it will reportedly not be the same length as a full mainline title. According to soulsilverart, Project Karasu could be one of many things: a new project that has replaced the Gaia DLC, Legends 3 being cut and reworked into Project Karasu, or just the next mainline entry after the Gaia saga has ended.

"Could Karasu be this same secret BW project?" They speculated. "No longer made by a 3rd party but by a Game Freak team? In contrast to a Crow, Swan was B2W2’s codename (a primarily white bird). Maybe it replaces the Gaia DLC. Maybe it’s a remake that releases the same year as the Gaia DLC. Or maybe it replaces Ringo as L3?"

Hopefully, all of these questions will be answered one day, but for now, we can at least look forward to 2026's Pokémon Presents livestream which kicks off at 9 A.M. ET.
