My Hero Academia season 6, Part 2 is at last available on Blu-ray and DVD, allowing fans to bring home one of the anime's best seasons to date. This time, the box set includes a number of goodies that big-time fans of the series will want to get their hands on.
Season 6 of My Hero Academia was a major turning point for the series, featuring the Paranormal Liberation War arc in its first half, and the Dark Hero arc in its second half, both of which have had long-lasting impacts on the story from that point forward. The Dark Hero arc focused on Deku as he set out alone, separated from his friends at UA while on the run from All for One and his goons. Deku took on a raggedy, darker appearance for this arc, emphasizing his isolation and the darker turn that his personality had taken on in the wake of the War.

The Season's Second Half Features Many Exciting Moments
The second half of season 6 features a Deku who has come to master his many Quirks, able to use them in conjunction to create incredible combo attacks and making him a powerful force to be reckoned with. In fact, Deku gets a little overconfident in his abilities, pushing himself to the limits of exhaustion in his attempts to clean up the jailbroken villains that roam the streets freely, all while avoiding being captured or killed by All for One. Deku felt he had no choice but to isolate himself from his friends, but the circumstances of operating alone even separated him from All Might.
This Dark Hero version of Deku is a distinct change from the plucky and optimistic figure that has led the series so far. That's not to say that Deku has abandoned his optimism; he still clings to it internally, desperate to save everyone, even those who would take up arms against him, like Lady Nagant, a fan-favorite villain who makes her debut in this arc. The tone of the story changes dramatically, but given the horrific experiences of the Paranormal Liberation War and the grave threat which My Hero Academia's Japan faces, this change of tone is both appropriate and fitting.
Deku's relationships come to the forefront by the end of this particular saga, leading to some emotional moments as his friends beg him to come to his senses and return home to UA, even in spite of the danger that might pose. It's overall a different sort of take on the "dark period" that many Western comic book heroes have faced, one tempered by the upbeat nature of shonen anime and manga and its themes of the power of friendship. It explores what it means to be a hero from a different angle, and acknowledges that even heroes are human, with human weaknesses and needs.
The Limited Edition Pack Comes With All Manner of Goodies
Fans who pick up the Limited Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo set of Season 6 Part 2 will receive an abundance of memorabilia and extras. The Blu-rays themselves contain episodes 127-138 of My Hero Academia, as well as some bonus features, which include two season 5 OVAs released on physical media for the first time ("HLB" (Hero League Baseball) and "Laugh! As If You Are In Hell") as well as the textless versions of the opening and ending sequences. The OVAs are quite funny, and worth a watch for any fans who haven't had the chance to see them before.
Also included are a number of fun and interesting bonuses. Most noteworthy, perhaps, is the 64-page art book, which includes rare interviews with the Japanese voice cast, discussing the events of season 6, as well as art and character profiles for many of the heroes and villains who play a role in the Paranormal Liberation War. Also included are two metallic art cards, depicting Deku and Shigaraki as they appeared during the War, a set of stickers, and an acrylic Standee depicting Endeavor, flanked by many other heroes who participated in the War.
This all comes in a box that's big enough, once the extras are removed, to house both part 1 and part 2 snugly inside. It's a pretty good set overall, especially for those who enjoy these kinds of trinkets and bonus content. At a MSRP of $89.98, this edition is a bit pricey, but as usual, thrifty fans may be able to find it at a lower price (as of writing, the Crunchyroll web store is offering it on sale at just $60.74, a much easier price point to meet).
My Hero Academia Season 6 is Worth Owning on Blu-ray
Season 6's Quality is Perhaps My Hero Academia's Highest
Fans who like to own physical copies of their favorite anime are sure to want to pick up this release, as it along with My Hero Academia Season 6 Part 1 make up some of the best episodes that My Hero Academia has to offer. The extras certainly help to sweeten the deal, but ultimately it's the episodes themselves that people are here for, and these episodes are very strong, and provide the essential groundwork to understand what's going on in season 7, which only recently finished airing.
With the end of My Hero Academia's anime close at hand, it's a good time to look back at how far the series has come, and there are few parts of the series that are more worth returning to than this. Fans interested in getting this box set should act sooner rather than later to ensure that they can get access to all the extras that come along with this first release. After all, what better to tide fans over until My Hero Academia season 8 debuts next year in 2025?
Disclosure: A review copy was provided by Crunchyroll for the purposes of this review.
In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
