moon knight brimming with power-1

The brutal fighter known as Moon Knight has long been a scourge of the New York streets, but a huge new upgrade is elevating him beyond any single city... or even planet. The upgrade comes courtesy of Galactus, who has chosen Moon Knight as his latest herald as part of a new ceasefire agreement with the Moon God Khonshu.

In a new preview of What If...? Galactus Transformed Moon Knight? #1 (from Alex Segura and Scot Eaton), Marvel debuts Moon Knight's new cosmic redesign, as his body is transformed into a shimmering galaxy of stars.

The redesign comes courtesy of acclaimed Silver Surfer artist Ron Lim, and is part of a new series of What If...? Galactus Transformed one-shots, where the Devourer of Worlds chooses heroes including Rogue, Gambit, Hulk and Spider-Gwen as his new heralds.

The summary for the issue explains that Moon Knight's alters - Marc Spector, Steven Grant and Jake Lockley - will each interact with the Power Cosmic in unique ways, with the preview showing them united in a battle against Terrax and Silver Surfer. The description also suggests that Marc is joining Galactus in order to create a new alliance between the World Devourer and the Moon God Khonshu, presumably wielding both their power in his new form. The issue's summary reads:

When Khonshu, the Moon God, and Galactus, the World-Devourer, clash, Moon Knight is caught in the middle! To keep the peace, Moon Knight becomes the newest herald of Galactus — but his alters cause the Power Cosmic to manifest in startling new ways! Unless Moon Knight can conquer his new powers — and a few former heralds — the Earth itself faces extinction!

The Power Cosmic is essentially control over matter, and has been used to warp reality, travel through time, and unleash energy attacks without peer. It appears Galactus has also given Marc some kind of power staff, similar to the ax wielded by his former herald Terrax. It's not yet known how the wheeler dealer Steven Grant, bruiser Jake Lockley and tactician Marc Spector will manifest this cosmic power differently, but however they do so, it will elevate Moon Knight to the same level as the Silver Surfer, becoming one of the great powers of the galaxy.

Over the last few years, Moon Knight has found new acclaim thanks to his MCU portrayal by Oscar Isaac and his acclaimed solo series from Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio. Now, he's getting the biggest upgrade of his long history, as Moon Knight becomes the latest hero to serve Galactus.

What If...? Galactus Transformed Moon Knight? #1 is coming January 15 from Marvel Comics.
