The Ecto-1 is part of Mondo’s collection of figures from The Real Ghostbusters animated TV series that ran from 1986-1991. It is a full reaction of the iconic vehicle seen across the Ghostbusters franchise, from live action to animation and video games. This Ecto-1 also comes with some alternate looks from the show.
The Real Ghostbusters Ecto-1 will have rolling and functioning wheels, functioning doors, latches, and many other articulated parts. It will light up as well as featuring accompanying sounds. The scale is 1:12, which is about 24” long. See our exclusive images below.
Hector Arce, Senior Director, Creative and Product Development at Mondo, says the company did a deep dive into episodes of The Real Ghostbusters with the Ecto-1 so they could include never before seen details. Inspired by the episode "Follow that Hearse", where the Ecto-1 is possessed by a monstrous Earth Spirit, Mondo included a hood that swaps out, allowing fans to display the car in its possessed form with tentacles coming out of its hood. Mondo even included a figure of the Earth Spirit, the first time that character has ever been made into a collectible.
Arce says that they really wanted to do something different with this version of the Ecto-1.
"We really wanted our Ecto-1 to stand out and give fans something new and also unexpected. We made sure to do some deep dives into episodes that were Ecto-1 centric, bringing brand new accessories never before seen in an 1:12 Ecto-1 to life. Some of the non-negotiable things for us included swappable parts like the possessed version of the Ecto-1 and the side car, Ecto-3. We're incredibly proud of how this is coming together and can't wait for fans to see it!"
The Ecto-1 is not just a cool collectible, but also a piece that is meant to be picked up and played with. It is compatible with Mondo’s existing Real Ghostbusters figures, which means they can fit inside the vehicle. "At the end of the day, it’s a display piece that encourages play," says Arce.
