Millie Bobby Brown is one of Netflix's biggest stars thanks to her breakout role as Eleven in Stranger Things. She played the character for nearly an entire decade and is a key reason why the powerful teenager became so beloved worldwide. But that run came to an end last year when Stranger Things season 5 ended on New Year's Eve.
The series finale marked the end of an era for Stranger Things and its star. After spending much of her time growing up playing Eleven, she's consistently looked to branch out from her most iconic role, and that's an even bigger focus now that those commitments are out of the way. Just because she moved on, though, doesn't mean Stranger Things did.
A prequel series set between seasons 2 and 3, Stranger Things: Tales from '85, expanded Eleven's adventures and came out in early 2026. Rather than retain the franchise star, Millie Bobby Brown was recast, with Brooklyn Davey Norstedt taking on the voice-only role. Brown was not alone in this regard, as no live-action cast members returned for the animated production.
This has not hurt Brown's relationship with Netflix, as she's already set to return with a new project for everyone to consume in exactly one month. That is Enola Holmes 3, which officially releases on Netflix on July 1, and ensures the Stranger Things star remains in front of the eyes of the streamer's subscribers.
Enola Holmes 3 Is A Great Way For Millie Bobby Brown To Return To Netflix
Coming almost exactly seven months after Stranger Things ended, Enola Holmes 3 is a chance for Brown to reprise her second-biggest career role. She's already played Sherlock Holmes' sister in two previous films, each of which was a big hit for Netflix.
2020's Enola Holmes reached 76 million households after receiving critical acclaim, 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel was even more well-received, 93% on the Tomatometer, and over 150 million hours viewed in its first four weeks, all of which placed it in Netflix's top 10 global charts.
While Stranger Things also received a lot of praise, the Enola Holmes movies give Brown a different type of role to play. She's able to be more emotive, show some humor and charm, and have a bit more fun overall. She makes these movies a real joy to watch, and that should be no different with Enola Holmes 3.
The threequel brings Brown's detective back as she prepares for marriage, only to have this personal development interrupted by Sherlock's kidnapping. A wild case unfolds from there, as seen in the Enola Holmes 3 trailer, one that puts the star's great talents front and center in what will hopefully be another rollicking good time.
Millie Bobby Brown & Netflix's Partnership Will Continue After Enola Holmes 3
Credit: Courtesy of NetflixAfter completing all of Stranger Things and an entire Enola Holmes trilogy, Brown and Netflix won't stay apart forever. She's previously headlined two other Netflix originals, the Russo brothers' sci-fi movie The Electric State and the fantasy film Damsel, showcasing just how much value the streamer has in keeping her around.
That is why she's set to star in several other upcoming Netflix movies, even after Millie Bobby Brown backed out of Netflix's Olympic movie, Perfect. Next up for them after Enola Holmes 3 will be the romantic comedy Just Picture It, co-starring The Fabelmans' Gabriel LaBelle. Filming is already completed, and while no release date is confirmed, it could be ready for release later this year, too.
Netflix has also picked up the option to develop Brown's debut novel, Nineteen Steps, into a feature film. The WWII story based on the experiences of Brown's grandmother entered development in 2024. It recently recruited director Tom Hooper, with Brown circling the lead role. Additionally, she has also signed on to lead a new supernatural Netflix series, Prism.
With there still being potential for Enola to solve more mysteries in the years ahead, Brown's time on Netflix is nowhere near done. Enola Holmes 3 is just her return to a platform she's called home for quite some time and will continue to do so to tell multiple more stories.
