Elizabeth Hurley Details Meeting Billy Ray Cyrus' Daughter Miley Cyrus
Maxx Morando’s proposal to Miley Cyrus was something beautiful.
The 27-year-old recently recounted how he asked the Hannah Montana alum to marry him.
“We were in Kyoto, Japan,” Morando told Wonderland Magazine in an interview published July 28. “For some reason—you’ll find this as crazy as I did—she’d never been to Japan before. Neither had I, and we’d both wanted to go for a really long time. There were talks before we went about me popping the question but I was trying to keep it secret.”
Throughout their trip, the Liily drummer had tried to keep the impending engagement under wraps, despite Cyrus’ growing suspicions her boyfriend of four years was about to get down on one knee. In fact, he revealed that he waited until “the very last moment of the very last day to throw her off the scent.”
“I had to be really sneaky about it,” Morando explained. “We went to Tokyo first for a couple days and then on to Kyoto. I think she had a sense that it was coming.”
And although the big moment didn’t include flowers, they were surrounded by gorgeous greenery inside a Japanese garden located on their hotel grounds.
“It was a little dead end, this beautiful Japanese forest-y situation,” he recalled. “She was taking videos, and was turned away. That’s when I got on one knee and tapped her on the shoulder.”
Understandably, the “Swallow” singer had some nerves before popping the question, expressing fears that he’d mess up the moment or drop the ring.

“I was sweating,” he admitted. “I could feel my heart pounding. You grow up as a kid watching the movies where the guy gets on one knee and does the whole thing, and you know that’s what you’re supposed to do. But then you realize, ‘Okay, I literally have to get on one knee.’”
Luckily, the 33-year-old—who first shared their engagement in December after donning her ring at the Avatar: Fire and Ash premiere—was pleasantly surprised. And of course, she said yes.
“I am not easy to surprise,” Cyrus told Good Morning America in December. “I love to control every situation. I had completely surrendered. I’m telling you, I was so, so, so surprised.”
