Myers made his debut as the villain back in 1997's Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, returning for Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999), and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002). Though there has been talk of a fourth film in the hit comedy franchise, one has yet to come to fruition, meaning characters like Powers and Dr. Evil have stayed on the shelf for decades.
Now, Myers has returned as Dr. Evil for a new Austin Powers-themed Verizon commercial. Seth Green, Rob Lowe, and Mindy Serling also return in the ad, which features Dr. Evil attempting to launch "Menace Mobile." This new company, Dr. Evil explains, will feature "the most confusing pricing plans of all time."
Scott, Number Two, and Frau Farbissina then reveal that they've made the switch to Verizon, which now offers a "Simplicity Plan," which eliminates activation and upgrade fees. Check out the commercial below:
The Austin Powers-themed ad accompanies another one that brings back the core cast of Yo Soy Betty, la Fea, the original Ugly Betty. That commercial serves as a Spanish-language push for the new Simplicity Plan initiative.
Myers' return as Dr. Evil for a commercial isn't anything new in the world of Hollywood. Movie stars have long reprised their most iconic roles to promote products or services. Harvey Keitel previously reprised his role as Pulp Fiction's Winston Wolf for Direct Line, while, more recently, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul returned as their Breaking Bad characters for a PopCorners ad.
