Michael Clarke has revealed that he's now completely focused on becoming a radio star - even if it means getting up at 3am to go to the gym before work.

The cricketing legend was announced as a new co-host of 2DayFM Breakfast at the Channel Seven upfronts on Thursday, and it's a challenge that he's taking very seriously.

Clarke will be joined by Nath Roye and Emma Chow for the new show, which kicks off in 2027.

The 45-year-old told the Daily Mail that his new schedule includes being up at 3am so he can prepare for the challenge of hosting a program that starts at 6am.

'I've got my daughter. I've got some other work commitments, but this is my priority. This is my focus,' Clarke said.

'I go to bed at 6pm and I wake up at 3am. I'm locked in, put it that way. I'm going to the gym before we even go to work. At 3am, I'm up.'

Clarke added that he is a genuine fan of the show, and the network, and is proud to have landed the gig.

'I grew up in Liverpool, so I listened to 2DayFM growing up. And then having the chance to listen to these guys and follow their success, how do you say no?' he said.

'It's such a great team to be a part of. I'm very fortunate and very lucky.'

In a statement after the announcement, Clarke said he is 'extremely excited' to join the station, which he called a 'very special' opportunity.

'I've been incredibly lucky where my career has taken me, now FM Breakfast radio is a completely new challenge and one I'm excited to get stuck into,' he said.

'Nath and Emma are absolute superstars, I have enormous respect for what they've built, and to be a part of this team is a dream come true.

'I can't wait to get in the studio with Nath and Emma and make the best show we can for Sydney.'

Emma said that she was thrilled to have the retired cricketer on board.

'Michael Clarke? Are you kidding!? I can't wait for this threesome to kick off in 2027! We love his wit, his cheek, and his unpredictability,' she said.

'A champion athlete, a loving dad, and not afraid to speak his mind.

'We already have a group chat going with plenty of LOLs that we can't wait to bring to our listeners.'

Nath added: 'We are so stoked to have a proud dad, Sydney boy through and through, and a former Australian captain joining our little crew.

'A man that's as talented as he is relatable and driven, we're very lucky.

'I also know you love a long lunch and an afternoon tea break… a man after my heart! Let's hit em for 6!'

The new 2DayFM Breakfast show will begin airing from January 11 2027.
