Michael B. Jordan's New Fantasy Series On Prime Video Can Last At Least 5 Seasons

Michael B. Jordan is currently developing a new fantasy series on Prime Video, with enough material that it could last at least five seasons. Jordan's best movies vary across genres, with the actor gaining recognition for everything from the boxing drama Creed to his role as Killmonger in Black Panther. Most recently, he won an Oscar for his performance in the vampire action movie Sinners, a major new milestone in his already decorated career.

But Jordan's no stranger to the world of TV, either. Many of his early roles were in TV shows, such as a recurring role as Reggie Montgomery in All My Children and a main role as Vince Howard in Friday Night Lights. Later in his career, he's continued to be involved with a handful of TV projects, including a voice role in the animated sci-fi series Gen:Lock and reprising his role as Killmonger for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's What If...? TV series. His involvement in various TV projects slowed down as he's become more of a big screen name.

Now, the actor is moving into the realm of developing TV series, with his name attached to a massive new Prime Video project: Fourth Wing. The upcoming fantasy series is based on Rebecca Yarros' Empyrean book series, with Jordan attached to the project as an executive producer. Others involved include Jonathan Nolan, Athena Wickham, and Lisa Joy, the last of whom will direct the first episode. It'll be Jordan's first TV project with Prime Video, adding another executive producer credit under his belt in the process.

Prime Video's Upcoming Fourth Wing Series Has Plenty Of Material To Adapt

The Fourth Wing TV show, much like the novels, will follow the story of Violet Sorrengail, a young girl forced into attending the Basgiath War College to become a dragon rider in her fantasy kingdom of Navarre. Her mission to become a professional rider is made all the more difficult by her physical weakness, partially due to her previous training as a Scribe. She's forced into a fight for survival as she attends the college, as a larger story unfolds upon her arrival.

The Empyrean book series is ongoing, with the first three books currently available on store shelves. The series is expected to be five books long in total, with Violet's story playing out across all installments. As of writing, the final two planned books in the series don't yet have release dates, with the series still ongoing. However, the lengthy installments coupled with the entries still being underway means the show will have enough material for at least five seasons when it arrives. One season for each book would be the most sensible way for the show to approach the series.

Fourth Wing Has Enough Room For Spinoffs Too

While Fourth Wing joins other fantasy shows like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video, it also has enough wiggle room for there to be spinoffs of the series as well. Yarros' books are about to prove this with the release of Threshing Day, a short story collection set to arrive on shelves on September 29, 2026. The book will consist of 13 short stories that take place over the course of a single day, with the characters' fates tied together in the process.

The short story collection proves Fourth Wing can be even bigger than its current plans, while the book series itself showcases just how massive the show could become when it arrives. For Michael B. Jordan's next big TV project, the fantasy series has a lot to live up to. The popularity of the book series also means it needs to do the source material justice while delivering a riveting fantasy series pulled directly off the page.
