Miami Vice just found its Tubbs and Crockett.

The all-new version of Miami Vice will be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the series, which debuted on NBC in 1984 and ran until 1990, starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as two undercover cops, whose pastel suits were just as pivotal to the show as the crimes they were fighting to crack. The film, which is set to go into production in the fall of 2026, will look at both the glamour of Miami and the corruption that surrounded the city in the mid-1980s. Miami Vice '85 will be produced by Dylan Clark and Kosinski, with Dan Gilroy penning the script based on Yerkovich's beloved characters.

The latest Miami Vice iteration comes more than two decades after the 2006 movie, starring Jamie Foxx as Tubbs and Colin Farrell as Crockett. And while Jordan and Butler definitely bring some serious star power to the film, the 2006 movie failed to break even in theaters, grossing $164.2 million against its reported budget of roughly $150 million. However, having Kosinski at the helm is a hopeful sign, with the director coming off a very successful and busy couple of years with the Oscar-nominated F1: The Movie and Top Gun: Maverick, both of which did big numbers at the box office. The casting news also follows the update that Kosinski might not be able to direct the third installment in the Top Gun series, with Miami Vice and a UFO thriller for Apple, keeping him busy.

Miami Vice '85 comes after Jordan's Oscar-winning role in Sinners, which saw him also take home an Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role, along with a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Jordan has also been busy directing and starring in a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM.

It will also mark another big role for Butler, whose big break came in playing the titular music icon in 2022's Elvis, a role that earned him an Academy Award nomination. Since then, he has appeared in prominent movies and series, including Dune: Part Two, Masters of the Air, and Darren Aronofsky's Caught Stealing.

Miami Vice '85 is set to premiere on August 6, 2027.
