A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation."

An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.

Crockett and Tubbs are back in action. Miami Vice '85, director Joseph Kosinski's new big-screen vision of the classic 1980s cop show, is now in production, and we've got our first look at its stars. Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler are clad in vintage threads in the first shots of the movie, which is set for release on May 19, 2028.

Based on the Anthony Yerkovich TV series that ran on NBC from 1984 to 1990, and which was later made into a movie by Michael Mann, who executive-produced the original series, Miami Vice '85 stars Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs, a hot-tempered New York cop who's relocated to Florida, and Butler as Sonny Crockett, a houseboat-dwelling loose cannon. Unlike Mann's movie, which moved the action to then-contemporary 2006, Miami Vice '85, as reflected by its title, will be a period picture. That's also reflected in the character portraits: their costumes wouldn't be out of place on Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson, the original Tubbs and Crockett.

In the movie, the mismatched duo will be sent into Miami's seamy and steamy underworld to take down a cartel that's been flooding the city with drugs. They'll be up against a deadly cartel leader played by John Leguizamo (The Odyssey), and his sinister right-hand man (Walton Goggins, Fallout). The film also stars Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), Camila Morrone (Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen), Danny Ramirez (Top Gun: Maverick), Edi Gathegi (Superman), Andrew Schulz (Tires), André Holland (Moonlight), and Michael Irby (Mayans MC).

Who Is Behind the Scenes of 'Miami Vice '85'?

Director Kosinski will tackle the speeding go-fast boats of Miami Vice, making it his latest high-octane movie after covering race cars (F1: The Movie), fighter jets (Top Gun: Maverick), and lightcycles (Tron: Legacy). Kosinski's frequent collaborator Claudio Miranda will serve as the movie's cinematographer. The script is by Dan Gilroy, the writer and director of the acclaimed 2014 thriller Nightcrawler.

Miami Vice '85 is now in production, and will be released on May 19, 2028. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
