Mewgenics was a massive hit when it launched on PC earlier this year, and at least one console port appears to be imminent. A premature listing on the Xbox store revealed a release date, which could be confirmed soon at Gamescom Opening Night Live.
On Aug. 23, True Achievements spotted that the Xbox store page for the game had gone up early, revealing a Sept. 8 Xbox Series X release date and affirming that the port would have 53 achievements for players to obtain. While the store page no longer mentions a release date, it still confirms that a Nicalis-published port for Microsoft's console is imminent.
Thankfully, we likely won't have to wait long to learn more. Last week, Mewgenics creator Edmund McMillen teased a Gamescom Opening Night Live announcement related to the hit roguelike on X. At the very least, it seems plausible that the Xbox port will be shown off there. It remains to be seen if any additional PlayStation or Nintendo console ports or new content for Mewgenics are announced as well.
Mewgenics' irreverent early internet-era humor allowed it to stand out in a crowded genre when it launched in February, as did its generally weird premise of building up an army of messed-up cats to fight with. Polygon's own review of Mewgenics praised the game, arguing that "it's a true feat for a game to walk the line between juvenile and complex, and Mewgenics does it deftly."
If the release date isn't changed, Mewgenics is seemingly launching on Xbox Series X on Sept. 8. We'll know for sure after Gamescom Opening Night Live airs on Aug. 25.
