Metal Gear Solid 1 Remake Unleashed With Playable Demo

Since its inception back in 1998, the Metal Gear Solid franchise by Hideo Kojima has been one of the most respected video game series of all time. The Japanese action-adventure stealth franchise is considered to have pioneered the stealth genre with the story tending to focus on a special forces operative who is tasked with finding a superweapon known as 'Metal Gear', before it can launch a series of nuclear attacks.

Now, at the time of writing, there are eight mainline Metal Gear Solid entries, concluding with the most recent entry, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, in 2015. However, with Kojima saying goodbye to the series following the launch of The Phantom Pain, it remains to be seen what is next. That being said, with fans calling out for an official Metal Gear Solid Remake, it seems as though that is not on the docket for Konami.

However, it is not all doom and gloom as one talented creator has found a way to release an unofficial remake of the first Metal Gear Solid title. This comes courtesy of YouTube’s ‘Maxime THOMAS LE DEORE', who, thanks to the help of Unity Engine, has brought the hit 1998 Kojima creation to modern-day.

Whilst fans should not expect a full recreation of the game, this remake aims to act as a tribute to the tutorial level, two of the original levels, and all of the iconic boss fights. However, this means that the remake comes alongside brand-new gameplay mechanics, as opposed to just remapping the original game. As such, it is quite the labor of love.

The catch here is that this fan-made remake is not a full remake of Metal Gear Solid, but with the developers themselves admitting that a one-to-one remake of the '98 title would be challenging, we cannot expect a solo fan developer to achieve the same. Nevertheless, there is no denying that what Maxime THOMAS LE DEORE has created is not impressive in its own right.
