Melissa Fumero's newest role in NBC's Grosse Pointe Garden Society is nothing like her iconic role as Detective Amy Santiago in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Fumero got her acting break when she scored the role of Adriana Cramer in the soap opera One Life to Live. Since then, she has played numerous characters, from Based on a True Story's Drew to Blockbuster's Eliza Walker. However, Fumero is mostly recognized for her role as the highly organized and meticulous Amy Santiago in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Amy Santiago is known for her fastidious and rule-obsessed attitude, contrasting with her love interest, Jake Peralta.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Jake and Amy are among of the best sitcom romances, and both characters are brilliantly played by Andy Samberg and Fumero. Recently, there has been a spike in reboots on TV, especially with sitcoms. Although revivals are common, Fumero has explained why Brooklyn Nine-Nine is unlikely to have a reboot. However, the unlikelihood of a reboot means Fumero can move on to other projects. That includes her latest role in NBC's upcoming drama Grosse Pointe Garden Society, where she plays Birdie, a character unlike Amy Santiago.

These four main characters are all eager to ensure their buried body stays a secret.

NBC's Grosse Pointe Garden Society's trailer promises an exciting story with juicy drama, scandalous secrets, and compelling dynamics. All four main characters lead separate lives but come together through gardening. However, this ends up being their potential downfall because of the murder they become involved in. The role of Birdie officially establishes Fumero's return to network television. Although Fumero has directed episodes and guest starred in some network TV shows, Grosse Pointe Garden Society is her first main role on network TV since Brooklyn Nine-Nine ended.
How Fumero's Birdie Is So Different From Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Amy Santiago
Birdie Puts Melissa Fumero On The Other Side Of The Justice System
Fumero's character in Grosse Pointe Garden Society, Birdie, is so unlike Amy Santiago. Amy is a detective in the NYPD and she is notorious for following the rules and being a stickler. Although Amy can let loose and have fun, she is obsessed with organizing things and respecting authority. However, Birdie seems to be the opposite. The premise of Grosse Pointe Garden Society involves Birdie killing someone and covering up the murder, which makes her a far cry from Amy Santiago.
Although Grosse Pointe Garden Society's trailer suggests Birdie will cave and confess to the authorities, the show still suggests that Birdie has dark secrets. Furthermore, Birdie is not uptight like Amy. Birdie seems to be a wild card, and the other characters appear to dislike her. Birdie is also scandalous and unafraid to break rules, placing her in an entirely different sphere from Amy. Grosse Pointe Garden Society's Birdie is an interesting departure from Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Amy Santiago, and it will be fascinating to see the actor take her on.
