‘Melania’ Sets Streaming Release Date At Prime Video

3 weeks ago 16

Amazon MGM StudiosMelania will begin streaming on Prime Video on March 9, following its January 30 theatrical release.

The documentary from director Brett Ratner, which featured “behind-the-scenes access to the first lady during the critical weeks before the 2025 presidential election,” opened to $7 million, the biggest opening for a non-fiction feature in the last decade, outstripping Angel Studios’ 2023 title, After Death ($5M opening), and ahead of the doc’s $5M forecast. This despite poor reviews. To date it has grossed more than $16.6 million in its theatrical run.

The $75 film cost $40M to license (that includes docuseries rights for Amazon MGM Studios) and $35M to market. The financial plan is that when Melania arrives on Prime it will spur ad sales and signups.

The film chronicles the 20 days leading up to the 2025 presidential inauguration, seeing the first lady as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and moves her family back to the nation’s capital. It also includes exclusive footage of critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments.

Ratner directed Melania and produced alongside Fernando Sulichin, Marc Beckman, and Melania Trump. The Amazon MGM Studios film is produced in association with Muse Films, New Element Media, and Ratpac Entertainment.
