Donald Trump Elected as President, Defeats Democratic Candidate Kamala Harris
There is a new administration moving to Washington, D.C.
Donald Trump has officially been projected to win the 2024 presidential election alongside Vice President-elect JD Vance, beating out Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris and her running made Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, NBC News reports.
But whereas Trump served from 2017 to 2021 with Vice President Mike Pence (before losing to President Joe Biden), for the 2024 election the President-elect added a new name to his ticket with Ohio Senator JD Vance.
When the announcement was made in July, the 40-year-old was relatively new to the political scene, having just been elected Senator in 2022. At the time, he was, perhaps, best known for his 2016 memoir Hillbilly Elegy, which details his family’s working class, rural roots and being raised by his Mamaw.
“My most important American dream was becoming a good husband and a good dad,” he said at the Republican convention in July. “I wanted to give my kids the things that I didn’t have when I was growing up.”
And, as he continued, “That’s the accomplishment that I’m proudest of.”
So of course, by his side throughout the campaign was his wife Usha Chilukri and their kids Ewan, 7, Vivek, 4, and Mirabel, 2.

When Trump earned the necessary 270 electoral votes to secure the presidency, Vance was quick to celebrate his no. 1.
“I appreciate you allowing me to join you on this incredible journey,” the Ohio native told Trump. “I think we just witnessed the greatest political comeback in the history of the United States of America.”
He continued, “And under President Trump’s leadership, we’re never going to stop fighting for you.”
