Glenn Close Is Unrecognizable in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Teaser Trailer
The Hunger Games family bond runs deep.
As McKenna Grace prepares for the release of her upcoming film Sunrise on the Reaping, the actress has been leaning on Hunger Games alum Josh Hutcherson, with whom she starred in Five Nights At Freddy’s 2, for advice on how to navigate the fame that comes with appearing in the iconic franchise.
“I just talk to Josh a lot because we were on that press tour together and spent a lot of time together,” McKenna, 19, exclusively told E! News at the Coach Fall 2026 show on Feb. 11. “I spent a lot of time asking him, ‘Was your arena experience as intense as ours was?’ And he was like, ‘Oh yeah, yeah it was.’”
Though fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see how McKenna’s experience in the arena plays out, the movie is based on Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel of the same name. It follows young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, as he's selected to appear in the 50th Hunger Games known as the Second Quarter Quell—set more than two decades before the original series takes place. McKenna, meanwhile, plays Haymitch’s fellow District 12 competitor Maysilee Donner.
And the star-studded cast—which also includes Whitney Peak, Glenn Close, Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Kieran Culkin, and Billy Porter—is certainly bringing their performance A-games, as McKenna previously revealed fans will want to bring a box of tissues when the film hits theaters in November.
“Everybody’s going to be, like, freaking sobbing in the theaters,” the Regretting You actress told Collider last fall. “It’s rough. Because I’m supposed to be the mean, most stuck-up girl in town, but I’m watching him do his thing and, like, oof, it’s very gut-punchy.”

Among those gut-punchy moments, for certain, will be the catch-up with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh’s characters, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, as Sunrise on the Reaping gives a glimpse into their fates post-rebellion. (As for whether original Haymitch, Woody Harrelson, will join them, that remains to be seen.)
Josh, 33, has previously spoken about the tight bond the Hunger Games cast has maintained since the original four movies wrapped, telling E! News in 2015, “Since we finished filming, we've all still maintained the same friendships.”
“It's nice to know we don't have to be on the set to hang out. It's good!" the I Love LA actor added. "People think it's really sad, but it's not really sad because we all still hang out. It's not like we're losing these friendships and that's the end of it!"

What Is The Hunger Games Book Sunrise on the Reaping About?
This book is a prequel to The Hunger Games and takes place 24 years prior to when readers first met Katniss Everdeen.
The story opens on the morning of the reaping (the event where tributes from each district are chosen to compete) of the 50th Hunger Games (a.k.a. the Second Quarter Quell).
"As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem," the description on author Suzanne Collins' website reads. "This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes. Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves."
