Fantasy enthusiasts who are looking for an epic new open-world experience that captures the essence of stories such as The Wheel of Time or Rebecca Yarros' hugely popular Fourth Wing series will be keen to learn about this upcoming project. Surprisingly, neither of these extremely successful fantasy IPs have seen a proper open-world video game adaptation yet, though The Wheel of Time is reportedly set to receive multiple new projects from iwot Studios at some point down the road.

Interestingly, both The Wheel of Time and Fourth Wing are getting new tabletop adaptations in the coming months, i.e., War of the Dragon and Rise of the Wingleader (respectively), but the project that fans of either or both franchises really ought to be on the lookout for comes from an unexpected studio with a proven history in open-world immersion.

There may not be a more exciting upcoming project in gaming than that of Sean Murray and Hello Games' newest open-world fantasy RPG, Light No Fire, the studio's massive follow-up to arguably the best open-world sci-fi game of all time, No Man's Sky. Light No Fire is potentially the most ambitious fantasy RPG ever, with Hello Games promising a procedurally generated ancient version of Earth "with no boundaries at a scale never attempted before."

Every mountain can be climbed, and below them lie endless vistas, oceans and continents perhaps no others have seen. Who will climb the tallest mountains, who will find the deepest sea? Set sail across vast oceans and rivers, ride wild beasts through fantastical landscapes, fly dragons over undiscovered landscapes.

If you're skeptical or curious about Light No Fire's scale and depth, look no farther than No Man's Sky, which has become the definitive space exploration game. While it launched in a completely different state than it currently is in, No Man's Sky proves that Hello Games is more than capable of delivering on their promises, assuming they take their time to cook.

Therein lies the major caveat for Light No Fire, which is that we have virtually no idea when the game might actually release. Given No Man's Sky's somewhat disastrous launch, Hello Games has almost certainly learned some valuable lessons about releasing a game too soon. With no official release date announced or even a general timeline, it's hard to say when we'll get our hands on it.

Light No Fire Is A Must-Play For Fourth Wing & Wheel Of Time Fans

The lack of a specific release date might seem disappointing at first, but it's honestly a great sign that Hello Games isn't jumping the gun on Light No Fire's launch. It also gives fans plenty of time to get hyped for what's to come, and for fantasy enthusiasts who enjoy popular franchises like Fourth Wing, Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, etc., to discover the game and put it on their radar.

Light No Fire promises a truly immersive fantasy world "where you're not the hero," but are instead a part of something much larger, literally. The game will be "thick with lore [and] mystery," and features Hello Games' signature survival-based gameplay that you'd find in No Man's Sky, "inspired by the adventure, charm and imagination that we love from classic fantasy."
