Marvel's Wolverine finally lets you turn off "fart gas" scent trails completely, but there's a catch

Marvel's Wolverine has received a new update that should hopefully bring an end to the "fart gas" scent trails saga. The latest patch, version 1.001.006, includes an option to turn off scent trails for Whiskey Bottle collectibles, Material Crate audio pings as well as Nightmare Door roots using three separate toggles in the Gameplay menu.

Senses will remain for what developer Insomniac Games described in the patch notes as "story-critical" moments, but that should at least be enough to limit how often they are a nuisance.

The game's ever-visible, bright-lit blue trails are meant to help players navigate to the next mission objective and locate collectibles hidden around levels. However, their implementation has been controversial, as many players saw them as unnecessary given how linear the game's levels typically are.

Even before Marvel's Wolverine came out, players asked for a way to turn them off, and though the studio initially released a hotfix to lessen their effect so they're less visible in the world, the game's latest patch delivers on the developer's promise to explore adding an option to turn them off entirely.

Elsewhere in the patch notes, a number of crashes players reported have been fixed, alongside instances where the player could become stuck. Patch 1.001.006 also addresses the overlapping bathroom sign in the casino level, which sparked accusations of generative AI use online.

If you're looking for some help locating Whiskey Bottles, Material Crates or any other in-game collectible, the Eurogamer Marvel's Wolverine guide has pages to help with that alongside a full walkthrough of the game.
