We haven't heard anything new about Marvel's Spider-Man since the sequel dropped in 2023. Of course, there were the extremely unfortunate and costly Insomniac leaks that revealed a handful of related projects were in the works, including a third entry. However, Sony has yet to actually announce anything official about the next game in the series, something that has come to be a persistent problem for fans expecting the web-slinger to show up during a State of Play.
However, that isn't to say that Insomniac and Sony are leaving Marvel's Spider-Man and its critically acclaimed sequel to rest on their laurels. Indeed, a brand-new Marvel's Spider-Man release is in the works and currently scheduled to release on July 28. While far from the Marvel's Spider-Man 3 update fans want to see, this new release should keep them entertained while they wait, if only for a short while longer. At the very least, it is perfectly timed to get fans hyped when the upcoming Spider-Man film releases in theaters.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is occasionally updated with new content in an attempt to give old fans a reason to return and newcomers an excuse to finally pick it up. The latest piece of new content is perfectly timed to release alongside the potentially incredibly successful Spider-Man: Brand New Day film, as it is dropping a day after its release in theaters. As one might have expected, this update is a collaboration between the game and film, with a brand-new suit being added inspired by the one worn by Tom Holland's Peter Parker.
The suit isn't the exact same Spider-Man suit from Brand New Day, but pays homage to the one seen at the end of No Way Home. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 already features the suits of the existing big screen Spider-Men, but as this one ostensibly blends together the designs of all three of them, it's the perfect way to avoid having to play favorites and celebrate them all at once.
Insomniac has announced that all Marvel's Spider-Man 2 players will get access to the Brand New Day-inspired suit for free when it releases on July 28. This is in-line with previously released collaboration suits, as Insomniac never treats them like paid DLC or a microtransaction. All players will need to do in order to access it is ensure their copy of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is updated on July 28. It is that simple.
Of course, a brand-new suit is a small win for fans hoping for a slightly bigger announcement, and the desire for something a little more significant is understandable. However, as much as DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, a new spin-off akin to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, or indeed an update on Marvel's Spider-Man 3 would have been preferable, for now the addition of a new suit or slight content update is what fans should expect from Insomniac, at least until the studio is ready to show off what it has been spending all this time and money working on.
