Thanos wielding all six Infinity Stones in Marvel Comics' Infinity Gauntlet.

Warning: SPOILERS for The Infinity Watch #1It’s been a long time since Marvel Comics first unleashed the power of the Infinity Stones upon the world. No longer bound to the Infinity Gauntlet or Thanos’ mad grab for power, the stones are now bound to seven hosts who have sworn to keep their cosmic artifacts out of the hands of evil. However, a new cosmic power has shown the team a different method of controlling their infinite power.

The Infinity Watch #1 by Derek Landry and Ruairí Coleman is the debut of the newest iteration of the Infinity Watch. Personally chosen by the stones themselves, each member of this cosmic force still struggles with what it means to have become gods and how to best use their powers together.

Infinity Watch stands together as a fully powered team

As the Infinity Watch squabbles over the volatile nature of their powers and the new responsibilities that come with them, a sudden attack rallies the team together. They soon come face-to-face with another group of interdimensional stone bearers, one of whom possesses a powerful new weapon.

Marvel’s New Series Replaces the Infinity Gauntlet With an “Infinity Blade”

Introduction of the Infinity Blade, a sword that contains the powers of all of the Infinity Stones

When the Infinity Watch receives its first red-alert beacon, they are met with a horrific assortment of interdimensional alien monsters known as the Apeiron. The Apeiron are also stone bearers who travel between dimensions to hunt down and consume the powers of the Infinity Stones. Unlike the Infinity Watch, the Apeiron have mastered their cosmic abilities and have learned to construct a new type of artifact that rivals the Infinity Gauntlet. One of these artifacts takes on the form of a mechanized human-sized sword.

Marvel Admits Which Infinity Stone Is the Most Powerful, Proving Thanos Wrong Once and For All

In the debut issue of "Infinity Watch," Marvel officially confirms which Infinity Stone is the strongest, and it isn't the one Thanos believed it was.

This currently-unnamed “Infinity Blade” is an imposing armament that possesses the full might of a completed Infinity Gauntlet. By combining their infinite powers, the Apeiron can create weapons that are imbued with the powers of each of the stones. The Infinity Watch was designed so that the stones always remain separated, only to be used together in times of great emergency. However, with the reveal of weapons like the Infinity Blade, the team’s purpose may be for nothing. The Infinity Gauntlet was considered an artifact unlike any other; now it’s merely a glove compared to this weapon.

The Infinity Blade Harnesses the Powers of Earth-616’s Infinity Stones and Beyond

One Infinity Gauntlet Was Already a Problem, Now There Can Be Many

So far, it’s unclear whether the Infinity Blade can harness the independent powers of the stones as the Infinity Gauntlet would be able to. That said, this sword should not be judged by Earth-616’s rules. Typically, Infinity Stones only maintain their powers within their home dimensions. However, the Blade’s wielder, Avery Zavala, explains that stone bearers maintain their powers outside their home dimension. It’s also worth noting that not every universe possesses the same stones, meaning that the Infinity Blade could be enchanted with entirely unknown godly powers.

The presence of multiple artifacts containing the combined powers of the Infinity Stones is bound to reap new levels of destruction across the Marvel Comics multiverse.

What is known is that it’s powerful. Without any of Earth-616’s stone bearers noticing, Zavala strikes down and kills Colleen Wing, simultaneously replacing her with an illusion. From how Zavala describes his weapon, it isn’t the only one in existence. A single Infinity Gauntlet is enough to make mortals nearly omniscient and omnipotent, placing them above the Abstract Entities in power. However, the presence of multiple artifacts containing the combined powers of the Infinity Stones is bound to wreak new levels of destruction across the Marvel Comics multiverse.

The Infinity Watch #1 is available now from Marvel Comics.
