Marvel Rivals: How To Play Devil Dinosaur (Abilities, Ultimate, Tips & Tricks)

2 weeks ago 24

Devil Dinosaur is one of the most intimidating characters to be added to Marvel Rivals yet, but his abilities reflect not just a fierce creature, but also a protector of allies. For Season 8, Devil Dinosaur is the first pure Vanguard added in some time, marking him as a crucial component of any team. With thunderous rage and an imposing presence, this character is not one to control lightly.

Although Season 6's Deadpool has a Vanguard side, Devil Dinosaur fills the role permanently in any team he joins. The character already has traits that set him apart from other characters, including a massive size that makes him an easier target for enemies. However, several passive skills allow Devil Dinosaur to avoid some status effects, with his huge health bar also contributing to his Vanguard status.

Every Devil Dinosaur Ability Explained

Simple But Effective Destruction On A Prehistoric Scale

Starting a match at 850 Health, Devil Dinosaur is the character with the highest starting vitality in the game, easily being the hardest Vanguard to take down from a numbers' standpoint. This plays into the simplicity behind the character's tool kit, as Devil Dinosaur is one of the most straightforward heroes added to Marvel Rivals' lineup. Devil Dinosaur doesn't have too many abilities, but rather has skills with very distinct purposes within different matches.

It's worth pointing out that unlike many other characters, Devil Dinosaur's melee attack is actually a tail sweep that hits behind the character. Since Devil Dinosaur is slow compared to other heroes, this can help hit opponents trying to flank you.

The table below goes over each of Devil Dinosaur's abilities, including how to use them and how often they can be used:

Bleed is the strongest tool in Devil Dinosaur's arsenal, allowing him to capture enemies, deal continuous damage, and generally put opponents in vulnerable spots. When Devil Dinosaur uses Savage Predation on a bleeding enemy, he can stun them, capturing them for a long time similar to Elsa Bloodstone's Ultimate in Marvel Rivals. Throwing back an enemy into your team not only isolates them from their allies, but also gives your Duelists the perfect chance to score a key elimination.

How To Use Devil Dinosaur's Ultimate

Slow And Launch Enemies For Allies To Eliminate

Marvel Rivals Dino Dinosaur using Ultimate ability on enemies

Also called Devil-Beast Rampage, Devil Dinosaur's Ultimate causes the character to start charging forward, at risk to himself and his enemies. When you activate this Ultimate, Devil Dinosaur gains a huge Movement Speed buff, causing him to run faster on the battlefield and straight into enemies for around ten seconds. Unlike the skills seen by Angela or The Thing, you still have full control over Devil Dinosaur's movement, which is unaltered in this state.

Each of your stomps while moving in this state, causing an AoE shatter around its point of impact, launching up enemies nearby. The shock wave stomps also apply Bleed to enemies hit, letting you set up Devil Dinosaur's other abilities. This process also causes Devil Dinosaur to unleash thunderous roars that Slow enemies, only adding to the debuffs applied by the Ultimate.

Devil Dinosaur can use all their other abilities while their Ultimate is active, including the defensive Buddy Barrier to Slow enemies further or Savage Predation to capture enemies who Bleed automatically through the Ultimate's effect.

This Ultimate is used best to break an enemy team's focus, causing an explosive disruption that calls on Devil Dinosaur's innate strength. Using the Ultimate grants you a good amount of Bonus Health, easily causing Devil Dinosaur's health to reach 1000+. This alone should give you enough incentive to push forward aggressively, similar to Hulk's Ultimate transformation that also empowers him.

Best Team Comps For Devil Dinosaur

Enable Other Aggressive Characters With Cretaceous Might

A variety of characters can work with Devil Dinosaur, as the Vanguard is largely self-sufficient. That being said, aggressive characters tend to work well with Devil Dinosaur's play style, especially ones who have fast movement. Due to the buffs and nerfs in Season 8, some characters with adjusted abilities will have good synergy with Devil Dinosaur that they may not have had before.

Here are some characters who might work well with Devil Dinosaur on a team:

  • Angela
  • Emma Frost
  • Spider-Man
  • The Punisher
  • White Fox
  • Mantis

The Punisher has a Team-Up ability with Devil Dinosaur called Prehistoric Partner, allowing him to ride the dinosaur into battle. While mounted, the Punisher gains significant Damage Reduction, with Devil Dinosaur absorbing a portion of all damage inflicted on The Punisher. At the same time, Devil Dinosaur shares some of the healing applied to The Punisher, similar to how Jeff the Land Shark, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot sometimes interact.

While riding atop Devil Dinosaur, The Punisher can only use their smoke grenade and primary weapons, while all his other abilities are locked out.

Other Vanguards that can disrupt or displace enemies work great with Devil Dinosaur's Savage Predation, such as Emma Frost or Angela. Spider-Man's speed can help deal huge damage to anyone Devil Dinosaur steals too, while characters like White Fox can use their own transformations to support the larger Vanguard. Meanwhile, Mantis can give Devil Dinosaur a movement speed and damage buff, making the hero even more lethal than usual.

Best Tips, Tricks, & Strategies For Winning With Devil Dinosaur

Pick Your Targets And Shred Everyone Equally

There are no big tricks to playing Devil Dinosaur, other than managing his slower movement and attack speed. Your goal with Devil Dinosaur should be to pick a high-priority target on the enemy team and apply Bleed to them as soon as possible. This will not only grant Devil Dinosaur much-needed Bonus Health, but also set up other abilities that synergize well with your team.

Another good trick to use as Devil Dinosaur is to target flying enemies with the Impact Beam skill. Managing the charge of that ability will help you ground characters like The Human Torch, Storm, Ultron, Angela, and others before they can even get started. The lack of negative conditions having any impact on Devil Dinosaur allows you to attack with more impunity, letting you target enemy characters without as much fear.

Due to long cooldowns on abilities, you need to hold onto some of your skills until the right moment, such as saving Buddy Barrier to block an enemy Ultimate. Unleashing your own Ultimate at the right time can also give your team the perfect moment to seize an advantage. While Devil Dinosaur in Marvel Rivals may not be the most complex character in the hero shooter, he can be one of the most impactful when using his abilities in deliberate and meaningful ways.
