Marvel Rivals has added another Duelist to its roster through Black Cat, Season 7.5's latest hero who lives up to the title of master thief. After tricking Kingpin in the game's story, Black Cat's play style reflects her playful and tricky self, with multiple abilities designed to beguile and deceive opponents. With a unique Fortune system exclusive to her, Black Cat is far different than any other character.
Following the introduction of the Strategist White Fox in Marvel Rivals, Black Cat has a wealth of flexible abilities. At her core, Black Cat's role is to be a disrupting force, either dealing lots of damage to score eliminations or disabling other heroes from doing the same. Breaking through enemy lines with her additional mobility makes Black Cat someone who doesn't need to stick with her team all the time.
Every Black Cat Ability Explained
Gather Your Fortune For Artifacts To Use When The Time Is Right
Black Cat's signature ability is a passive skill called Fortune, a unique in-game currency she gathers by landing attacks against her foes. Some of Black Cat's techniques gather Fortune, while others cost Fortune to use. When playing this character, you have to carefully track the Fortune you have, while taking steps to gather as much as you can to spend on stronger abilities.
The maximum amount of Fortune Black Cat can have at a time is 1,000. An icon in the middle of your screen should display how much Fortune Black Cat currently has, usually measured in hundreds.
Black Cat has a number of passive skills too, with some increasing her mobility or applying debuffs to enemies. Some effects make Black Cat harder to damage, allowing her to be incredibly elusive compared to other heroes. With the changes to balance in Marvel Rivals Season 7.5, nerfs to stunning effects support Black Cat's passives incredibly well.
The tables below goes over all of Black Cat's abilities, including what extra abilities you can purchase for Fortune on the fly as you play:

|
Gilded Deal |
Basic Ability (E, R1, RB) |
Various Fortune |
Open a dimensional rift via the Randall Gate. Spend Fortune to barter with the Gilded Saint for rare relics from the New York Thieves Guild Vault. |
The Gilded Deal ability has the most variety out of nearly any character in Marvel Rivals, besides maybe Deadpool and his shifting skills between roles. Black Cat can barter with the Gilded Saint for six different relics, which each have a unique effect once purchased. No matter what ability you buy, there is no cooldown to buying another, as long as you have the Fortune to spend.
Here are all the different relics you can buy through Black Cat's Gilded Deal ability, as well as what they do and how much they cost:
- Tablet of Destinies (100 Fortune) = Gain a random amount of Fortune.
- Helm of Hades (200 Fortune) = Enter Invisible state for a set duration by using the Gilded Deal ability again.
- Faltine Flame Orb (100 Fortune) = Conjure an orb of mystical Faltine Flame as a projectile that latches onto a wall and marks all enemies.
- Chernobog's Crystal (200 Fortune) = Purify yourself, removing any active control effects when you use the ability again.
- Ring of Zona (200 Fortune) = Open a portal on a surface, allowing instant traversal to the opposite side.
- Mento-Fish (200 Fortune) = Create a hypnosis field that disables movement abilities and grounds all flying enemies caught within.
How To Use Black Cat's Ultimate
Deal Far More Damage Depending On Which Enemy You Target
Black Cat's Ultimate is a little simpler to execute compared to the many deals she creates normally through Fortune. Calling Card is an Ultimate ability that immediately issues a card to all nearby enemies, giving Black Cat a chance to mark certain targets within range. The Calling Cards she places on enemies don't issue any sort of debuff, but they do allow Black Cat to perform more actions.
Black Cat can instantly dash to any enemy with a Calling Card placed on them, tearing into them if they are within her sight and range. The claw swipes performed after the Ultimate dash deal Percentage Damage, meaning they deal more damage to enemies with higher health. Although the Ultimate only lasts for 10 seconds, this is a fantastic ability for shredding through high-health opponents.
Black Cat's Ultimate is very similar to Venom's or Wolverine's, where the damage works better when an enemy is at a higher HP threshold. This makes Black Cat's Calling Card attacks very effective against Vanguards like Groot, who have the biggest health pools in the game.
Every strike during Calling Card generates a massive amount of Fortune for Black Cat if she manages to hit a target. Some of her Relics can help make this Ultimate even stronger, such as the Flame Orb that helps her see enemies through walls. This Ultimate can be a surprising trap when paired with certain Relics, allowing Black Cat to greatly weaken an enemy team and amass great wealth in the process.
Best Team Comps For Black Cat
Other Mobile Characters Can Help Her Finish A Heist
Black Cat is a character who is largely self-sustaining, dashing in and out of conflicts to gain enough Fortune for Relics. As a result, Black Cat typically works best on teams who also have a lot of mobility, either with characters directly helping her or following her lead into tricky exploits. As her play style breaks several Marvel Rivals traditions, here are some characters who enhance her unique approach to matches:
- Captain America
- White Fox
- Spider-Man
- Black Panther
- Venom
- Ultron
For starters, Captain America and White Fox are excellent partners for Black Cat due to a Team-Up the master thief provides as an Anchor. When Black Cat is with either hero, she gives them the Lucky Loan Team-Up, which does something different for each character. Captain America can create a stronger shield, with deflections that have pinpoint accuracy against enemy projectiles.
Ultron is another great character for Black Cat because his healing drones can target her despite her agile movements for constant healing. That being said, Black Cat's Relics make her useful on a wide variety of team comps.
On the other hand, White Fox can use her Lucky Loan to cause her tail projectiles to target enemies, dealing extra healing or damage on hit. Any "dive" character works wonders with Black Cat too, with heroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Venom helping her take out enemies who stray from enemy teams. High priority targets like enemy Strategists and Vanguards are easier to take down when Black Cat has an ally or two on the same mission.
Best Tips, Tricks, & Strategies For Winning With Black Cat
Buy The Right Tool To Shift Your Team's Fortune
The fragility of her health makes Black Cat a tricky character to play, as you have to use every trick at her disposal to gain an advantage. Obviously, gaining Fortune and buying Relics is the most important gameplay loop surrounding Black Cat, but you have to be deliberate in what you buy. Depending on the situation, the right Relic could turn the tides of a stalemate, with your team's success relying on what you purchased.
Through her Jinx mechanic, Black Cat can also escape situations that turn against her fast, with enemies sometimes missing the chance to eliminate her due to bad luck.
For example, using the Ring of Zona to teleport or the Mentos-Fish to ground flying enemies might set up a teammates Ultimate to wipe out rival forces. However, much like Elsa Bloodstone in Marvel Rivals, Black Cat's burst damage as a Duelist is more than capable of quickly eliminating foes without help. Black Cat excels at using her mobility to get behind enemy lines, then quickly demolishing a target after robbing them blind.
One of the best strategies with this character is to harass a target for their Fortune, flee, then return to do the same process over again with a Relic in your hand. In Marvel Rivals, Black Cat's abilities and Ultimate are geared toward fast and fluid play, rewarding players who understand the delicate balance of stealth and theft.
