Marvel Rivals is still breaking records, as the concurrent player count within the past 24-48 hours, reaching higher than titles such as Helldivers 2 and Grand Theft Auto 5. Within less than a month, the title accumulated over 20 million players worldwide, which is no easy feat. With so many heroes to choose from, engaging battles, and competitive play, it's no wonder the alleged "Overwatch killer" is doing so well.
This weekend, Marvel Rivals surpassed over 600k concurrent players, which could be due to the recent release of season one, which brought new maps, new heroes, and a massive battle pass. According to SteamDB, the highest concurrent player count within 24 hours was 644,269 players, which, according to Eurogamer, made it one of the biggest games in terms of concurrent player counts of all time.
Marvel Rivals Breaks Concurrent Player Count Records On Steam
It May Not Top Counter-Strike Or Dota, But This Is Still Impressive
Season One, Eternal Night Falls, has just begun in Marvel Rivals, bringing a new battle pass with double the content, two new heroes, new maps to traverse, and even a new arcade game mode, Doom Match. Looking at the analytics on SteamDB, Marvel Rivals has surpassed the 24-hour concurrent player counts of major titles such as Path of Exile 2 (286,476), Grand Theft Auto 5 (203,927), and even Rust (205, 124). This is not an easy feat, and even though Dota and Counter-Strike 2 still dominate in terms of player numbers, being in the current top three is quite impressive.
It seems that even with the developers deciding mods are no longer allowed within the title, players can't get enough of what the hero shooter has to offer. With several new features added, including a new competitive rank and events to complete, it is no wonder fans keep coming back for more. More so, leaks suggest even more new heroes are coming, and NetEase has already confirmed The Human Torch and The Thing will be added to the roster in just a few weeks.
Fans Can't Seem To Get Enough Of Marvel Rivals
Even Though It Does Have Its Quirks
While Marvel Rivals has been wildly successful, that doesn't mean it doesn't come with its fair share of problems. Competitive players have complained about crashing mid-match and getting penalties, and some fans believe that there should be the ability to ban certain heroes a lower ranks in competitive matches. Even so, the title seems to be remaining at the top of players' lists when it comes to what they want to play, and it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
