While the MCU's Chris Hemsworth has made the role of Thor his own, other actors have depicted the Odinson, from Eric Allan Kramer in 1988's The Incredible Hulk Returns to Travis Willingham in a range of Marvel's modern animation and video games.
Now, a new name is added to that list, as Liam Karlsson becomes the young Thor. And this isn't a role that fans have to wait to see - it's available now.
Liam Karlsson Is Marvel's New Thor
Animated kids show Iron Man and His Awesome Friends recently returned to Disney Jr. with the second half of its first season (episodes available to stream via Disney+.) The first new episode includes 'The Mighty Thor and Mischievous Loki,' officially introducing Karlsson as Thor and Nylan Parthipan, with Alan Ruck voicing Odin in the series.
The episode sees the Iron Friends (Tony Stark's Iron Man, Amadeus Cho's Iron Hulk, and Riri Williams' Ironheart) meet up with Thor to hang out and play with team pet Gamma, aka Iron Pup. Sadly, they're beset by Thor's mischievous brother Loki, who enchants the team's vehicles to act as his henchmen. The entire segment is available to watch below:
Thor is depicted with two designs - a hi-tech armored form and a civilian appearance with a blond undercut - switching between them using his enchanted hammer. The character is depicted as a good friend with a lot of confidence, dispatching Loki's mechs with a hammer blow that would make Hemsworth's God of Thunder proud - especially because the animated Loki wields a staff based on his iconic MCU weapon.
Thor and Loki recur throughout the second half of the season, with future episodes titled 'Loki's Movie Mania,' 'Thor and the Frost Giant' and 'Thor and Loki Hit the Road' promising their return. Once this season has concluded, Karlsson may even end up with more appearances as Thor than his MCU equivalent, especially given an upcoming Avengers series...
New Avengers: Mightiest Friends Series Coming Soon
Following the success of Spidey and His Amazing Friends and Iron Man and His Awesome friends, Disney Jr. will release Avengers: Mightiest Friends in 2027. Like its predecessors, the show will star kid-friendly versions of iconic Marvel heroes and villains, with Avengers stalwarts Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Iron Man and Spider-Man already confirmed to appear.
Liam Karlsson is set to reprise his Thor role, and it's likely Nylan Parthipan will return as Loki, given the God of Mischief's iconic role as the Avengers' first supervillain. JP Karliak's Green Goblin (aka 'Gobby') and Tony Hale's Ultron will also likely cameo, as has been the case in prior team-up specials.
Disney Jr.'s Marvel shows have welcomed a new generation into the fandom fold, parsing the publisher's most iconic figures in totally new ways. Now, Thor is officially part of the gang, going on adventures with a young Tony Stark and foiling the mischief of his significantly toned-down brother, while still delivering some thrillingly age-appropriate action.
Marvel officially has a new Thor, as voice actor Liam Karlsson depicts a younger version of the hero in Disney Jr.'s Iron Man and His Awesome Friends, with a starring role in Avengers: Mightiest Friends also on the cards soon.
